I remember reading somewhere on here that someone was recommending potting soil as bedding for mice and that it kept the smell down. Has anyone used this method? Did you find that it was worth the extra effort to heat & cool the soil? Did it end up being more or less work than using regular bedding that you use and toss? How often did it need to be changed? Was it more or less expensive than what you were using previously? That enough questions for ya?

Yup, used it for about 4 months last year No, not for the amount of rats I had BUT it was worth the "effort" for 1-3 cages of mice or rats IMO. Well, whilst it was more to clean, you also have to take into consideration that you had to go buy bedding etc... Depends on the size of the housing and how many rats/mice it holds Less. Yup, thank you J/K

Oh, and one more question... What was your method exactly? (How did you cook & cool it? Did you mix it with anything? How often did you change it? Did you reuse the soil, etc?) Ok, maybe that was more like 5 questions...

Got the fresh bag home, baked until dry, put in, left until needed cleaning, took it out, sprayed with F10, baked until dry and so on. Didnt mix it with anything (Apart from burying seeds, dried pieces of fruit etc to get them to forage). Changed as needed, I changed it all every 5 days and that worked for me. I reused soil for up to 15 times, yup.

What's F10? And was every 5 days longer than you usually changed bedding when you used regular stuff? BTW, what were you using normally?

F10 is a cleaner, absolutely amazing. Google it, its mainly used for avian and such. I use/d wood pellets, and now we spot clean every 1-3 days and change it completely out every week and clean the tubs down with F10.
