If you've ever been bit by a feeder mouse, please tell me what to do...
I don't handle mice at all really. But when the boys lunch escaped from its box today, I had to grab and hold it until I got mouse and ferrets into the tub.
I picked up the mouse and it bit the CRAP out of my finger; drew blood; still hurts! I washed my hands in hot water and soap for a couple of minutes- so now what do I do?
I have rubbing alcohol and peroxide- any tips? There is a tiny hole in my finger now and its swollen/sore.. grr.

Ouch! IMHO rodent bites hurt more than when ferrets bite, but I've never seriously been bitten by a ferret. If it was a feeder mouse there shouldn't be any diseases that you can get. Cleaning it with peroxide may help kill some germs and make sure it doesn't get infected, but other than that I don't think you have to do anything else. I'm sure someone else will be able to help you better than I !

Thank you, bigsis7 I'll go rub some peroxide on it. I believe you.. Ferret bites have never hurt this bad.. but then Slinky has never bit me, and Weasel hasn't bit since his kit days. Ferret scratches kind of hurt, but that feeling goes away quickly. I guess I got the mouse's death bite- he knew he was at his end and that was his final fight- well, better for mouse to bite me than a ferret. At least Slinky killed him quick- a few crunches, dog shakes, and now the ferrets are locked in their cage so they don't drag dead mouse everywhere

Dont clean it with peroxide or alcohol! Just leave it be! Keep a bandage around it and keep it cool to help with the swelling. You can take a Zinc tablet to help with healing, but as it is a feeder mouse it shouldnt have any diseases and if it did then it shouldnt be fed to your ferrets anyway

Lol! Ok- harrisi, no peroxide then I got a drink and checked back on thread before doing anything. The mouse should be clean- got it from local pet store and I tell them every time that I'm feeding the mice/rats to my ferrets. Sidenote- I saw baby chickens in there today! That would make a nice meal for my boys, I think. $3/each- not bad. I'll wait til they get in some smaller ones though

If it hurts badly, you can take an anti-inflammatory like aspirin, ibuprofen(Advil, Motrin), or naproxen(Aleve). I wouldn't use any antibiotic ointment since it's a puncture wound.
I've endured quite a few rodent bites in my time, and they are quite painful! I intend to get some good thick gloves for handling mice. Without gloves, try and handle them by their tail.

Thank you bluedove- I'll consider a painkiller Thanks for the tip too. I remembered (after incident- of course), that the pet store clerks always pick up mice by their tails. I don't touch the mice until after they're killed-- well, lesson learned! Feels like a bad cat bite

I've been bit by countless mice. I used to breed them as pets, and if one bit me it went to my dog. She loved it. That brings up another point, its probably good that they bite. Would you want to feed a cute *friendly* mouse to the ferts? I wouldnt, I prefer feeding the mean biters.
