My cats are fed kibble right now. Nutro Indoor Formula to be exact. I just haven't been able to afford raw for everyone. We noticed last week that my almost 3 year old marbled tabby, Tyran, has fur loss on her back legs. Her paws look fine but above the paw all the way up the inside of her legs, and a little on the outside of her legs, the fur is really thin.
Many people who I've asked say it could be a food allergy. I've been feeding her the same kibble since I got her in 06. My husband said he noticed a little hair loss a few weeks ago but figured it was just rough play with the other cats. As far as we know, the cats do not have fleas. I have checked them over several times and have not seen any fleas. (They are not on flea preventative, as they do not go outside, but the dog goes outside and he's getting flea preventative today. His last dose was mid February.)
My mother in law also suspects a food allergy. The other cats are completely fine with no hair loss. Everyone eats and drinks normally. Poop and pee is all fine. She acts normal. She is still as talkative and annoying as ever.
We contacted our vet who said she'd have to see her to make any kind of diagnosis. Right now we don't have the money for a vet visit but we should as soon as rent is paid on the 1st. I was thinking of switching her to a raw diet to rule out a food allergy. I can't afford giving everyone raw, but just her should be ok. Once we are out of our apartment situation (we just need to give 60 day notice and pay april and may's rent) which should be by the end of May, we will have enough spending money to provide everyone with a raw diet.
Any thoughts on the fur loss though?
