I don't know if I'm feeding my ferrets the right stuff. I have this bagged food right now that has no soy or fiberous material in it - rather plant material. These guys are babies and I'm just worried about their diet and adaptability. Also, they don't seem to drink out of the dropper that much. What should I do about that? and when they drink out of a little dish, it seems they spend more time shaking off the water than actually drinking it. Today, I saw one of the babies bite and nibble at his tail. I'm not sure if that's because he was just itchy or if it's something to do with fleas. So, i'm a little worried there. If anyone could help, that would be great. I feel kind of lost and there's really not too many - none really - holistic pet places where I'm living. Thanks bet10court

Hi. I'm glad you are asking questions about your fuzzes ! The itching is something all ferrets do from time to time. Suddenly stopping, turning and scratching/biting with a vengeance. If the itching doesn't seem to stop, or if you see fleas, then worry about it. Dry skin/itchiness can also come about from a poor diet. If the ferret isn't getting the nutrition they need, it will show up in many ways. The skin is one. The ideal diet for a ferret is whole prey. Then whole prey/raw meaty bones mixed, then raw meaty bones, then either freeze dried or commercial raw, then grainless kibble, and on down. With kibble, at least the first three ing. need to be meat, preferably the first 4-5. Evo fits this, as does(Ithink) some Orijen products. Not sure what else.

Do you know the name of the food you are feeding? Check out the site here for some ideas on how we move people through and into natural diets, as we all are here to better our fuzzies' health through nutrition. Sherry answered your questions well, if you have any more, please don't hesitate to ask.
