Okay, aiko is four months now and I want to introduce her to a raw diet. I bought some chicken livers last night but I don't know where to start!! I don't want her to get salmonella or anything and I don't know how to introduce her to it! HELP!

To start with, I'd give her some chicken breast or thigh bits, diced up small, coated with pulverized kibble if necessary, instead of the liver right off. Freeze it for later. Don't worry about salmonella- their digestive tract is too short for it to affect them from fresh raw. I leave mine out for twelve hours with no problems. Why not post in the mentoring section? They can give a lot of good advice, and answer any questions you may have, as you are guided through the transition period!

I started mine out with cut up chicken and virtually powdered kibble. It only took 2 days for them to go kibble powder free. Then again mine are kits haha so I'm lucky that it was easy for me. Mine are big fans of chicken and steak. Introducing new meat is the hardest.
I also noticed livers are a bit rich and if she eats those straight away I'm guessing you are going to notice some runny poo.
Keep us updated!

Liver wouldn't be my choice of starter meats. Sherrylynne has it correct...put it in the freezer for later . If she did eat some, be prepared for dark, tarry loose stools. Don't be worried, it's just all the blood being processed or not processed as the case may be Ohhh, that's not fair....starting kits...they put everything in their mouths and eat just about anything . Four months isn't that far off that though. The switch should be very simple. Get yourself a mentor out of the mentoring section or read some of the threads to get some really good starting ideas . You should be able to switch your furbaby in a matter of weeks, more likely days but all things given. You should have no problems getting this little one to eat raw. Napoleon was eating raw food before he even left the pet store at 7 weeks. He hadn't even figured out how to eat kibbles (the manager at the store was really concerned because the this batch of kits wasn't eating, I just gave him some of Mischief food that I had on hand) and was he a hungry little monster. He never looked back, he has no idea what to do with kibbles. Good luck. Have fun, don't panic your little one should and will be able to handle the bacterial load without any problem. That's what they're constructed to do. They are true carnivores ciao
