Hello everyone,
My name is Jackie and right now i am planning ahead to get things ready for my 2 new ferrets i am getting in May when i move into my new apartments with my 2 friends. They both love ferrets as well so we are all very excited! I have previously had 3 ferrets of different ages but i have never tried the natural diet and am very interested in starting with my new ferrets. My two new little ones will be 3-4 months old, so i am not quite sure on how to start out. The last baby ferret i had gotten was in 1998 and all the other ferrets i have had were older ferrets so im a little rusty and nervous .
So I am concerned about switching these little guys to a better diet than from what the pet store feeds them. I cant remember how well baby ferrets take to swtiching to a different type of kibble. Do i need to feed them exactly what the pet store feeds or is a different brand okay?
To start out introducing them to a raw diet I was thinking of starting off with the Wysong, Zupreem, or Evo and mix in small bits of raw chicken to see how they take to it. Is this a good idea, or not?
If so:
1. what exaclty should i do/how slow or fast to go about continuing this?
2. since they are young how soon can they eat bones too and what part of meat/bone combo should i start with? (like feeding them small piece of meat and 1 small bone in it to chicken wings, etc?).
3. i have heard that by some that if feeding raw meats that i should add supplements and from others ive heard i dont need to do this at all. Which is correct?
Help would be much appreciated! I cant wait to bring them home and settle them in! Thanks
