As I posted in General Discussion, Sinnead's tongue is sliced clean through, so obviously she's on a softer, bone-free diet for a while, til she heals. I'm giving her tiny cubes of meat, which she's eating fine, and knowing her(lazy whelp ), I'm going to have to reintroduce larger chunks slowly again. The question is, how long should I wait before thinking about reintroducing bone again? The vet figures if all goes well, she should heal enough to eat larger chunks in two-three weeks. So I was thinking of maybe a month for the bone?

Poor little thing. My Mad Max had his tongue sliced from the rear to the front (had the look of a snake's tongue) and had to have surgery (a misadventure with the cat, they're now enemies of the highest order). I gave him ground raw with bone in. He got soupies for a couple of days but had enough of the sickies food before the end of the week was eating ground raw and by the end of two weeks I saw him with a rat and he was chowing down with serious abandon . The tongue heals at a very quick order and there was no sign that the surgery had ever been done at the end of 2 or 3 weeks. I think you will be surprised at how fast she recovers and how quickly she probably goes back to her usual eating habits .

Oh, I hope so! Right now, she's in the quarantine cage because she's getting the tiny pieces(which she prefers ), because the others would eat it all on her! I wouldn't give her her mousie tonight, and she was so disappointed . Plus, Boris is her bonded partner, and I really don't like keeping them apart! So, you're telling me she should be able to eat bone around two - three weeks? And larger chunks, what, maybe the end of the week? She has a checkup next Sat., to see how well she's healing, so I guess I'll decide then! Thanks!
