Since we have the ferrets now, I find that I love the smell of them, funny huh? For some reason their smell takes me right back to my childhood. I think it's because I remember the smell of my uncles ferret, so every single time I smell them it whisks me away. lol
My daughter also loves how they smell. I have always liked musk and musky smells in perfumes as well. Musky incense as well, like frankincense and Mir are others that would mix well with the ferrets musky smell. I get liking their smell from my father, who came out to my house today to smell them and play with them a bit.
I have found that a few musky scents like for instance, sandalwood with vanilla smells real good and compliments the ferrets natural musk. Also, Murphy's oil soap is another cleanser that isn't harsh, cleans well, and is a musky sent. If you add the Murphy's oil soap, one cap full to a container you can spray, then add the musky oils to the container then fill with water, you can clean the ferret room with that, I love to wash walls down. My husband is always saying I will wash the paint off or the wall paper off the walls, ( I have an O.C.D.) anyhow. lol
I washed the walls down in my ferrets room with Murphy's oil soap, and sandalwood/vanilla bean oil and water. I also set my filter queen in their with the power pack turned off. I put sandalwood and vanilla bean oil on a cotton ball and let it put out the aroma. My husband, ( who feels they smell strong, he is delicate, lol)
Now you have to understand Kevin, his mother is old and she is afraid of everything. He didn’t get to have pets when he was a kid, except a dog, so he has not idea about them, I had mice and all sorts of critters. I’m sure his mom is freaking out that I’m stinking up the house. LOL good for her, Kevin came into the house tonight and was like WOW it smells so good in here, he then went into the ferrets room and was like wow it smells even better in here, he was so surprised because of what he has heard about their smell. I told him yea, anything would stink if isn't cared for in the righ way. He knew that I was going to work with the aroma therapy today and see how the musk would work. He actually thought they smelled good today.
You will find that most people who love a musk smell like the smell of ferrets. My husband likes soft musk by Avon on me. I like it to, it is one of my favorite fragrances. I always liked musk, now I like it even more. I pick them up and smell them all the time when we are playing with them.
I also like those little crock pots that plug in. I add my musk oil to them then water and let them simmer for a little while, that helps mix with the musk even more. But not in their room.
Instead of trying to get rid of the musk; work with the musk to enhance it more. If you enjoy their musk as much as I do then you will find it wonderful when you enhance it. Other people will to.
I have a book called The Naturally Clean Home by Karyn Siegel-Maier it is such a good book and tells you how to mix up herbal formulas for green cleaning. That is the best way to green clean by mixing up things on your own, then you know what is in them.
There are also common plants that purify air, spider plant, ferns, weeping fig. you could keep them in parts of the house where the ferrets aren’t to help keep air clean in those rooms. We will see how well my efforts are when my mother comes out and smells my house. She still can’t believe I have five Chihuahuas in my house and they don’t smell it up. She has heard all these stinky stories about ferrets, so I’m a little excited to see what she has to say about the musk smell.
I have all sorts of formularies that help with odors and help cause a calm to a home. I love to mix scents and use them to clean with.
I’m sorry this ran on so bad. ;D
