I know I read somewhere about emu oil but now for the life of me can't remember where I did find this www.ferretdepot.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Store_Code=fd&Screen=PROD&Product_Code=1504but here are the ingredients Ingredients:Poultry fat, emu oil, olive oil, lecithin, alpha-tocopherol acetate. Guaranteed Analysis: Crude Fat, (Min)............98.0% Moisture, (Max) ............0.5% Vitamin E, (Min)............500IU/kg Omega 6 Fatty Acids, (Min)..13.9% Omega 3 Fatty Acids, (Min)..0.9% Omegat 9 Fatty Acids, (Min)..50% After looking for pure emu oil the cost (average) is $35 for 90 gel caps. Would it be better to just stick with my fish oil/extra virgin olive oil than use the ferret emu oil? I can't afford the pure emu oil, not now anyway!

There are people in the Massachusetts Ferret Friends group that swear by that stuff, including the shelter owners. They say it wipes the floor with Ferretone because of the better balance of Omega 3, 6, and 9s. I myself have not tried it, but have heard good things.

I would think that the pure emu oil is probably a good oil supplement. I'm very skeptical of anything that's cut with something else, especially chicken fats though. I can get that from the source, I'm not going to use it processed. I have a friend who raises emus and the oils are indeed much more expensive. Are they better than marine oils and others like it. She claims it is. I bought it for my dogs for a couple of months, did I see the huge differences in my furkids? NO, not for the cost. Did it work, yes. Personally, if I was looking for something different, I might consider rotating oils. Marine fish oil one month, switch and then use emu and then maybe salmon oil and maybe arctic vigor. I've found that changing oil supplements is sometimes worth as much as switching protein sources. Is emu oil worth the price, depends on what you want and if it does the job for you. I find a lot of these miracle products a matter of perception. If you perceive that it does amazing things then maybe it does for you If you can afford to feed emu oil by all means its a good oil, is it any better than any of the others, I honestly don't know, I don't think it was. Would I buys a product that was cut with other oils...NO, definitely not but that's just my opinion . ciao

I agree with Heather. Switching between a couple different oils is a good idea so there is no over-supplementation. Although, I read somewhere that it's better to have more omega-3 than omega-6, because omega-3 is an anti-inflammatory while omega-6 increases inflammation (causes a lot of problems!). If you supplement omega-9, there's not as much of a need for omega-6. Omega-3 and omega-6 together make omega-9. Make sense? So switching between pure emu oil (has more omega-6 than 3, but has omega-9) and fish body oil (has more omega-3 than 6), would be great! Someone correct me if I'm wrong on any of this...... You have to be very careful about the quality of Emu Oil. I highly suspect that stuff has pretty low grade stuff. I have tried it and was exceptionally dissapointed.
I wouldn't worry about the ratio of 3's to 6's in this because you are feeding foods that have them in it anyway-thus offsetting the ratio to begin with. I would search out a good source of Emu oil or non farmed Salmon oil and give that versus a premade combo of oils and vitamins. If you have a good balance of nutrients in your ferret's diet the benefits you are looking for are the Omegas, Vitamins A&E. Any added vitamins are kind of a waste as you would want to give a natural, digestable for ferrets, source for any other vitamins.
