Has anyone here fed pork brain or the like? And I'm assuming that it would be organ. If you've given it to your fuzzes, how did they react to it? Like it? Avoid it?

I know that the heads are the first things to go with the mouse, rats and rabbits. The brains are eaten in those. My dog loves sheep heads with the brains. I've never fed brains as a meal, but why not??!! Unless, there's some strange disease that comes from eating it ....freezing kills most parasites...so unless someone has some other insight. Why not? The brain is full of nutrients and trace minerals. I will be interested to see what others say ciao

We feed whole deer with the head if we dont have alot of space in the freezer and the brain gets eaten. I dont see why you couldnt feed it and like said you feed it from rats/mice/chicks anyway, I also feed rabbit brain.

Deer brain makes me a little uneasy, just because of all the CWD warnings in our area. Of course, it's humans that aren't supposed to eat the brain or spinal cord, and the disease isn't supposed to be interspecies anyway, and it's not like wolves have ever been reported with it... Yeah, deer brain is probably fine for a ferret, lol.
Where are you finding pork brains? I noticed Wal-Mart of all places has beef tongue, tripe, and oxtail, but I can't imagine finding a tub of brain in with the pork chops.

It's actually Shea who was wondering. No idea where she found it. Thanks everyone!

Prion diseases come from Brain and spinal cord hence the warnings about CWD. While I don't worry too much about prion disesase (Mad cow, CWD, Ahlzheimers (sp?)etc. . .) and feed brain and spinal cord one should know that you can kill parasites by cooking or freezing, but not Prions. Prions are nothing more than a amino acid chain-but are virtually indestructible they appear undegraded even after boiling for an hour or freezing for months.
