Hi all!
Been an avid natural feeder for over a year now. Started with my first ferret, when she was just a wee kit. Then Ferret math struck and I adopted two oldsters ( 6 year olds) and they switched. Ferret math being what it is, I ended up adopting four more ranging in ages from just at a year old to almost three (we think). and THey are all fans of the natural diet!
I lost my first most special ferret Josie ( my namesake) to Juvenile Lymphosarcoma. Before Josie got her wings she taught me a tremendous lot about ferret nature and what makes ferrets happy. She was a very adept predator and would easily dispatch rodents and birds much larger than herself! She'd take down medium to large rats, chicks, and even uinea pigs! She could fish and devoured superworms, nightcrawlers and even crickets!
Just a couple months ago my dear Fozz man passed away from insulinoma. But I have video of him while he was learning to develop his inner predator. Fozzy would capture and kill a mouse and his favorite was their head. He'd mash and crush the rest of the mouse but never did completely come off the kibble. His demise further bolstered my resolve to NEVER get a ferret hooked on yucky carbohydrates and junky kibbled crud!
My oldest ferret now is Faylene, a sable, she turns seven in September. Faylene won't kill a mouse, but she'll happily eat one that someone else has dispatched! Her favorite is gizzards. Faylene's teeth were literally black and grey when I got her - even her front teeth looked nasty. But now they are pearly white and gleaming!
Next is Fizzle, a mutt mitt, who is three and was shifted around to several homes because she was a vicious biter. Now the only thing she chomps is meaty bones and mice! She like rabbit.
Windy is a tiny chocolate ferret that doesn't know she is the teensiest one of the group. SHe is also one of the best hunters. Unfortunately after she has dispatched a mouse the others will snag it from her, so I have to be certain she still gets hers.
Crystal is my deaf ferret and a fair rendition of Josie's reincarnation! Like Josie was ( who was deaf also) Crystal is a VERY energetic ferret and she is the swiftest hunter of the group. She is the most determined and doesn't take no from anyone in the group! She used to be a panda, but now appears almost all white.
Bugsy is my big boy, a sable and the big clown of the bunch. He was the slowest to convert, but now relishes chicken necks and mice. Although he still hasn't got the hang of hunting down pat yet, he'll definitely throw his weight around when stealing another's prize!
So that's my crew in a nutshell, cracked as it may be; I look forward to exchanging ideas with you all!
Cheers,
Kim
P.S> Guess I should let ya'll know I am from the sunny state of Florida!
