I just bought some Rabbit Wings by Aunt Jeni's from the store I work at, and was just wondering, do I just defrost a wing and give it to them whole or do I ground it up in the blender? I am just worried about them hiding it somewhere in my apartment or eating it somewhere other then my kitchen if I give it to them whole. And if I feed it whole, do I leave the bone?

I don't mean to sound like a total goof but....rabbit's have wings??? As with anything that has a bone in it feed it. I would try and get them to eat it whole and then start disassembling from there. How about pinning it or tying it to a cage?? Is that possible?? I know that if I don't want a rat being stashed somewhere in the house I attach it with a wire to the cage, otherwise I find scenes like this This was left in the middle of my hall, he's very dead and was frozen but it was totally disconcerting to come out of the bathroom and find him there ciao

I guess its the muscle from the front legs of the rabbit, above the paws. I was asking at work what part of the rabbit they were from and know one really knew. But it comes in a package with a few wings, with no skin or fur. It kinda looks like a chicken thigh, but smaller. I guess I could try attaching it with a wire somewhere, but they will still hide parts of it and I dont really want to feed them it in the cage.

ok, it appears to be the front leg and upper shoulder?? I've fed them before. I just feed the whole thing. If you wanted it to be in smaller pieces break or cut at the joint. My guys consume most if not all the bone that is in this particular cut. Hope that helps ciao

I skewer my kids meals with a shower curtain clip and hook it to their cage. I used to have feeding dens though, while I was switching, that I used to clip the meats inside so that I could feed everyone separately. It works out and I rarely find presents around the apartment

I just gave them a part that I cut up and put it in the tub first and they did not touch it. Skunkers just licked it a couple times. They just wanted to get out of the tub, and they both hate baths. Then I tried putting the parts in the plate with the ground up meat I feed them. They just took the parts and hid them all over my apartment, like I knew they would, but I wanted to try. So I need help again in feeding them whole raw parts. They are used to eating the ground meat, and it is kinda soupy, so thats why they probably dont like the whole parts. How can I get them to eat whole parts??

I'd start by giving them their usual, but add a few pieces that are just a tad larger. That way, it's not too much for them all at one time. Slowly increase the number of larger bits as they accept them, then do it all again!

My only problem is that they will take the parts and still hide them all over the place no matter what size they are. Why is it that they do this? In know they horde food, but I rarely ever see them go back for it. I just want to see them eat a whole part, I am dying to see my boys do this like in Heathers pics.

Try feed them in a rubbermaid tub. or feed them a little bit later, so they want to eat rather then stash the food.

Are you making sure they are hungry enough to eat before you feed them? It seems odd that they'd hide all the food instead of eating it, if they're hungry

Hmmm, I've had guys who would sooner starve than eat strange meat....ferrets are rather weird that way Are your guys caged at all? I don't like to cage but my guys get caged from 3:30 am to 8:30 am when I go to bed. I wouldn't cage at all but there are a couple of ferts who don't get along with each other in the close confines of their room. They do ok when they have the whole house to roam but their fert room is too small to allow them all free roam time in their room. This is when I feed most of my whole meats. I find that they do stash but they go back to it. They don't have any other food in their cages at this time. They do sometimes leave some, but that gets eaten in the morning. It's rather like an easter egg hunt but with meat parts. It's much more fun to steal and eat your neighbours whole foods than to eat your own. So when the cage doors are open everyone is running around "cage raiding". Almost all the left over meat is eaten during these raids with very little left to stash. They, then start prowling the house looking for stashes that escaped the room the day before, and seeing if they can stash the old cat (if he's silly enough to be sleeping in the sun on the floor). The rats are also stashed, stolen and re-stashed but are eaten within a 12 hr period, with the skins eaten within the following 8 hrs. That's how it's done here. ciao

My two guys are only caged when I am at work and sleeping at night. And they are very hungry when I get home from work for their raw meat dinner. Thats the first thing I tried last night when I got out of work was the rabbit wings in the tub, then I tried putting it on their plate and they still did not eat it but as soon as I put the ground meat down they ate that right up. I put the rabbit wings in the plate with the ground meat and they just ate around it and stashed the parts later. Then at the end of the night I put the rabbit wings in the cage to see if they would eat it over night, and again they did not even touch it. Even tho I have to leave kibble in the cage all the time because of Skunkers supposed case of Insulinoma. Still no test to confirm that or his Adrenal. I hate that I have to leave it in there, but at least its EVO.

Man Im still having trouble getting the boys to eat chunks of meat, liver, hearts, ect. Where do I go from here?? I am soo confused. I dont want them to live off ground meat the rest of their life. It seems like every time I add chunks to the ground meat or alone, they still just keep hiding it in different corners of my apartment.

Okay, here's my question: how do you serve the ground. I am still feeding Paulie's ground mixed up with a little bit of water. He doesn't even like balls of ground meat just yet, though he's making progress. If you are mixing up the ground so they can essentially lick it up, maybe try making little balls of ground? Or maybe try to make a courser grind to start.
I know Paulie is stubborn with the gizzard pieces I add to his ground now and then to try to introduce some "solids" to his diet.
