Argh, couldnt get the pics, the camera kept saying "no space on memory card (C:)" I was like..WTF? I dont use a memory card (C:) : : lol. Anyway, the breed groups dont take up tons of time really, with the rabbits it has always been a case of throwing in hay, oats and any veggies daily then tossing up the soil every few days to bring up clean soil and put the "old" stuff to the bottom. The rats and mice have wood litter bedding so spot cleaning is very easy with them, we have an auto-watering system for rodents and the quail just eat veggies, wheat etc and are cleaned out every 6 days.

All animals good, though I got some new rats in earlier in this week and have noticed they all walk differently to my current rats? lol. They kinda hop with every foot and walk slightly to the side?? I will be taking one to the vets purely out of interest, if there is something wrong with them or there is a birth defect that could be passed on they will be culled and fed off, if there isnt, they will be staying, but I have no idea what it could be? New arivals...plenty! 2 new litters of rats, 3 litters have moved to the growing on bin, 1 litter of mice born, 3 babies eaten, one "auntie" attacked when she tried to feed the kits. I don't understand mice sometimes!! Crazy mice...aren't they all crazy?! haha. Apart from the back flipping from the top level, climbing up then sliding down the bars of the cage and attempting to squeeze through bars nope....then we have the AcroRats!! we closed off the garage and let 7 groups of 5 females out to meet each other....madness! I soo regreted it! Ever tried cleaning with 35 rats running around, hanging from cages, running down jumpers etc? If not, your not missing out!! It was funny until they decided they would bite/scratch through the bin bags full of rubbish...argh!! Escape artists...now theres a slightly common occurence....We have the sides of the tubs cut out and have mesh screens there, its bolted on and there is metal paper keeper things around the edges to stop them being chewed HOWEVER...the baby rats have learnt that if they work together, they can move these off, chew around the bolts enough to make them fall of and squeeze through the gaps. Need to re-think that idea. As for hubby, didnt know I was married lol?? Jamie? if so..hes just a ...best, BEST friend.

Yeah they are scared I will leave them with cleaning out duty maybe?! On a bright note...... WE GOT BABIES! OODLES OF BABIES! The rabbits gave birth a few weeks ago in the burrows evidently...this morning we went out and there was 19 babies hopping about the enclosure (could have been more in the burrows), I admit it, I awwwwwwww'd over them for a while before being reminded they were food. They are, as a guess, about 5 weeks old so we will leave them be for 4-5 weeks then take them out and cull. The poor male though, he's not all there I have to say. He keeps trying to steal the girlies burrows but gets beat up every time, but doesn't dig his own, so I felt sorry and put in a small dog kennel thing with loads of straw All are happy now though.... the quail shed was empty so we have moved the chickens up there. I have a confession to make as well. I am addicted to chickens. Right now we have 7 pekins, 2 cochins, 1 brahma and 4 silkeys, with more incubating! BUT we at least have the excuse that they save money by incubating us quail eggs lol.

So now everything has been moved around, the rabbits have a larger enclosure. Which means we can add more rabbits, so 4 standard rexes are on order We have in total 23 babies, from 2 litters. Loads of burrows are being dug, alot of them are just "pot holes" though lol. I think actually that these rabbits will be killed next week. We stopped hunting 4 or 5 weeks ago and sure enough the freezer is now empty of rabbit, so since these are at an ok size, I will feed them off as of next week. Might save a doe or two back though, grow one on to join the breeding colony and grow one on for dinner.

Oooh it's been ages since I updated! Or even logged in, for that matter. Been missing you guys! Fuzzymom - I'll try take pics of the enclosures now, it's much easier to get everything in view with everything being smaller scale Everything has been going awesomely! 2-ish weeks ago we decided to sell up some of our set-up, as we were producing bundles of unneeded rodents and rabbits and whilst it was good being able to give away free foods to help people with switching, something had to give as it was getting too much what with all the babies and now with the weather etc...So, in the past couple of weeks we have: Sold 2 racks (1 mating rack, 1 birthing rack) bringing us down to 6 mating boxes, 10 birthing boxes and 2 growing on boxes Gave away 7x 1.6 groups of rats to a family with 5 recently switch ferrets Wiped out the growing-on quail "sold up" the barn and land Given away 4 breeding rabbits Wiped out growing-on rabbits Moved the quail and chickens back home Made the rabbit pen slightly smaller, but the standard Rex's are now living in separate cages *whispers* Bought 4 new chooks....dang it they are additive. lol Can't think what else other then that? Anyway.. No litters or even growing-on kits at the moment! But our one female has made a small nest in a bed box and has pulled some fur, so we are hopeful that she is due soon.

Just got a couple of pics of the new quail hutches, will upload them earlier though you'll have to excuse the mess around them since the shed roof started leaking all of the wood shavings, wood, food, bins and hay has been moved into the poultry shed =[ Will try get some pics of the new chicken aviary aswell.
