Hi everyone, I´m new here. I live in Mexico City with my boyfriend and two adorable ferrets; Tutun and Kimimila. They´ve been in I´m not sure how to call it, raw or hole pray?... we give to them 3 baby rats each morning but we cut it for them. We switched from Mazuri to rat about 2 years ago, we started with chicken but the vet told us that if we wanted natural diet we should give them a natural prey, like mice or rats. At the bigining we made a kind of puree with the rat, then we cut it in little pieces and then in bigger pieces but we keep cutting it. I was wondering if that is ok or we should try giving it on one piece??? I will surely appreciate any advice on how to switch to cut rat to hole rat. Thanks you all. Jazmin

Hey! Welcome to the forum!! Whole prey is the best kind of food, but raw is also ok. With whole prey the ferrets should be fed at least three different kinds prey of different ages. Giving them whole prey in one piece is ok. Let us know if you have any other questions!

Welcome on board My guys have been eating whole rats for awhile. You should be able to offer your guys the whole rat and have them eat it without too much problems. You should also try to feed other prey too. You may have to use some whole meat as well just to round out their meals. The ideal is to try for 3 or 4 different prey types. I feed my guys rats, mice, rabbits, quail, some feed chicks ( I haven't found a supplier yet). I'm able to feed a wide variety because I feed everything from ground to whole meats and prey. So my guys eat chicken, pork, lamb, venison, rabbit, mixed fish (they steal this from the cats ), emu, duck, turkey, mice and rats. Some people have also fed various other types of rodents like hamsters, guinea pigs...it depends what you can get. They also feed some lizards (please check toxicity) and insects. As you can see there's a lot you can offer them. Prowl the various threads in the nutritional sections and you should be able to come up some other prey that your guys might enjoy eating Good luck, hope to see you around ciao

Hi Jazmin, Was wondering how Kimi is doing? Has she reesponded to her meds and are you able to offer her older mice or rats? Hope she is improving! CHeers, Kim Thanks for asking!!! It looks like she is allergic to rat, at least thats what the vet thinks. Can this be truth??? The vet took some blood from her, he wants to know if the kidney levels are normal, if so we could try the Carnivore Care. He also wants to take a look at pancreas levels, he thinnks pancreatitis could be the other reason for her sickness. So we are waiting for ths tests results. She is now on cat food, hypoallergenic and k/d, and trying to get the rat out of her diet. If all this is just an alergy, we are goining to need some help switching her to new prays. I´ll let you know. See you soon!!!
