I read that you can put a little apple cider vinegar in the water bottles to help with the smell of the ammonia from the male mice. My question is, how much do I use? Also, I have heard you can use it in your pet water to help repel fleas...can it be used for ferrets to help repel fleas as well as for urine odor? My ferrets are no where near stinky like my mice or my cat, but I was thinking, with all of my critters, it couldn't hurt...

I have no idea about ACV, but I have heard to use a few drops of vanilla extract in rodent water bottles to help with the smell. I tried it for a few weeks and didn't notice much of a difference, but that was when my mice were younger and less stinky.
As for using ACV or Vanilla for other pets, I would love to know what others have to say. I thought about giving vanilla to the ferrets but it just seemed strange...
Has anyone else heard of this or have any thoughts?

The ACV dosent help the smell of the actual mice, but it is said to help the pee. I have tried it with rabbits, ferrets, rats and guinea pigs and besides not being very good for them it didnt help at all.

I had heard it will help with the ammonia smell from the urine. I've read that putting it in your dogs water, will help repel fleas.

Not really, it is quite acidic to the mice, along with the natural sugar content. ACV is used in dogs ears to prevent fleas/mites/ticks or to clean away the parasites, but I dont see any need to put it in the water. The reason it helps repel the fleas is because if the dog "stores" the ACV in the skin or sweats it out (wich it is likely to do) then it aggitates the fleas, however this wont mean the dogs wont carry it into your house, and some fleas are not at all bothered by it.
