Can ferrets have guppies? There's someone on CL that has tons of them for free, & I just picked up a cheap 10 gallong fish tank with filter. I'm trying to increase variety in my weasels diet...

I'm thinking as long as they can swim in clear plain water for a while, I don't see why not. I believe they are also classed as a feeder fish.

I'm not sure, but I know you will need to be really careful with the fishies diet and water condition. Obviously you shouldn't use chemicals in your tank. I'm pretty sure guppies breed quickly... if you pick them up, let us know how it goes!

I would be careful. Ask if the guppies have been medicated or if any chemicals have been put in their water. It can be risky as I'm not sure many fish breeders/owners don't put chemicals in the tank. Here is a quote from Giuli from another thread: "Don't feed feeders. Goldfish and guppies are(n't?) that healthy, and as bigsis mentioned depending on what was in the water they were in, they might have harmful things in them. Better choices are whole RAW (not canned) Anchovies, Sardines, and Smelt (trying looking in the asian market for these things). All are high in omega-3 and should be free of nasty water additives. I wouldn't feed fish more then 1x per week as its not a huge part of a polecat's natural diet." (also the n't was added by me )

We've let them try halibut.. The reason that was a one-time thing is I don't want to find out what ferret poo containing fish smells like! I love my furkids but the pleasantness of their non-odor now is spoiling me..
