I'm wondering if there is a high quality nutritionally balanced canned food that I can leave for my pet sitter when I go out of town. It seems like most of the 95-100% meat varieties aren't balanced. Is there a brand or style you can recommend?
Also, I know I could leave Nature's Variety medallions, but I'm looking for something even easier if possible!

IMO freeze dried meats AFS , stella and chewie's , wysons Archetype1 are the easest way to have others feed while I am away mainly because they can fill the bowls and dont have to worry about the food spoiling after a few hours . and they are compleete diets . Its also good for traveling with them too .

I'm going to side with Suds on this one - AFS, Stella and Chewys, wysong, ziwipeak - all are easy to work with and easy to explain to the sitters. My ferts don't like the food unless it's rehydrated, though. But the rehydrated food is better than most canned varieties.
If you are unsure of the products - Casey's Hidden Pantry has added an unofficial sampler pack. You can get some S/C patties, AFS sprinkles, AFS Patty, and some ziwipeak.

I'm with Frank & jojodancer, freeze-dried are super-easy, balanced, and you don't have to worry so much about it spoiling if your sitter leaves it out.
I tend to mix up the freeze-dried stuff when I go away (like this past weekend when I took them to the Winter Nats with me) and they do well on it, and it's easy even for me with the long drive and keeping in a hotel room.

Thanks for the help guys. The only freeze dried food I can get without ordering online or special ordering through a shop is Ziwipeak, which would be $12.99 for the small bag (12 oz?). I haven't bought any before since it is so expensive to feed 4 ferrets such a diet, but if I am out of town for only a few days, it would be worth it so my mom doesn't have to make 2 trips a day to our home.

ZiwiPeak is Air dried not freeze dried. It isn't powdery if broken up and cannot be rehydrated. It is jerky. Mine LOVE ZiwiPeak. I suggest lamb flavor. The pouches have 14 oz in them. $12.99 is a good price. It is $14.99 here

Thanks for the info WLOW. Mine tried a small sample of Wysong the other day and all four were willing to try it! Unfortunately it isn't easy for me to get. Is the ZiwiPeak more moist?

I order my Wysong's through jojodancer at Casey's Hidden Pantry! Great service, fast delivery, and good prices! (I got it within a week, and I live in Calgary, Alberta! )

Thanks, Sherrylynne! I feel bad because it takes so long for Sherrylynne to get her orders. Everyone in the states gets it in 2-3 days. ziwipeak is $10.50 at Casey's Hidden Pantry. The wysong is $15. For my 6 ferrets, we open a bag of hte lamb and a bag of the venison, and it usually lasts 1 week. We had to add some EVO to the mix due to our new fosters. One was having a hard time getting used to the fact that ziwipeak is food - he was on 8-in-1 ultra all his life. so we added the EVO kibble into the mix and he seems to be getting used to it. The moisture from the ziwipeak seems to have softened the EVO kibble, too.

Thanks for letting me know about the prices and how much your babies eat. I will keep Casey's Hidden Pantry in mind for the next time we leave town.

Hey, JJD, don't worry about the time lag! When I order it here in the city, it takes between 2-3 weeks to get it- and that's if I'm lucky! I not only pay less(inc. the shipping) with you, I also don't have to drive 45 minutes through rush hour traffic to get it! It's delivered to my door

That sounds like a good deal to me too Sherry!! JJD, I plan on ordering from you in the future. Right now I have more freeze-dried foods than most pet stores though so it'll be a while until I'm in need again!!
