I was wondering if anyone else has trained their ferrets to come to a certain sound. We have a squesky toy that makes a uniqe sound. Our ferrets all come running when they hear this sound becuase to them it means "FOOD" but it has come in handy the one time we could not find one of our ferrets at the end of the day when it was time to put them in their cage for the night. She heard the sound and came out running for her food. Has anyone else done this or something like it incase a ferret gets out??

Yes! I have a ball I bought for the dogs that makes an AWFUL squeaking sound (I took it away from the dog, couldn't handle it, lol, so it's JUST used for the fuzzies). When I squeeze it they all come running. Easy enough train them to it using treats (I think I used nutrical, lol) or whatever. If you even need to, lot of fuzzies will come running just because of the noise....

I trained the kids that can hear to come to a whistle in case of an emergency, i only use the whistle once a month and when they come i give them a treat. I bang on the floor to so my def kids will get the idea that it means treat, i also do this once a month. It is very importaint to train your kids to come to a noise or vibration. Oh yea they also know the sound of the micro wave everytime they hear it they think it is soup time.

LOl mine come running the moment they hear the butcher knife come down on the chopping board, i feel bad when i am cooking for me or the non furry family and i look down at the barrier at the kitchen and I have 9 ferrets sitting there looking at me going ok its food time!!!  We use the squeaky twice a day when they are being feed so that it sticks with them that this means food. |

I'm trying to Clicker Train right now, its kinda tough tho! But I just got Evo, and I'm going to use that as his treat instead of Ferrevite because he gets that for other good deeds as well. So far, I am making good progress, he didn't care for squeaks so thats why I don't use that.
