I only rarely get the ferrets mice, the only petstore (aside from petsmart) that sells frozen mice charge $1.86 for "adult" mice that are about twice as big as a pinkie. Today I saw an ad for someone who breeds snakes, builds cages and supplies feeders. I contacted them and he will sell me mice for sixty cents each! Already frozen too!

You go....that's how I got the deal for my furbabies rats. Quite often these people who raise snakes and other reptiles require (as we do too) excellent and high quality prey for their scalebabies to eat. The reptiles rarely have the appetite that our furbabies have thus their supply quite often exceeds demand so they're more than willing to share and make a little money to defray their costs It's quite often a win win situation ciao

That is what I'm going to end up doing. I breed snakes and currently keep 13 of them. I'll be breeding mice and rats for them and the ferrets and selling any extras I have. The pet store I buy rodents from is one of the cheapest (and only) place in town to get feeder rodents. The only other store that sells live prey is Petclub, and they are usually very expensive. 1.70 something for a hopper mouse, and an arm and a leg for rats.

The guy buys extra and sells them, it's a good way to make money since pet store feeders cost so much. I've bought the mice at the pet store about 4 or 5 times. One time I was lucky, they were out of mice and gave me a small rat instead but other then that there is no way they are worth almost $2. Feeder rats around here are about $7.
The only downside is that the guy is about 45 minutes away, but he is near te rabbity where I work.

that's awesome!! There's a guy in downtown Seattle (an easy commute for me!) that also breeds mice and rats for his snakes. He miscalculated this month and I'll be buying a bunch of mice from him to store till my furkids are ready to try em. Pricing is lower than petco, but I'm not sure how much lower yet.
