Ok so tomorrow I'm making up my first batch of soup, ever. We get Taz on Wed so I want it made Tuesday. I noticed that some of them say water but then I saw somewhere that you can use egg too. Then read somewhere else that you should only use the yolk not the whites. I'm a bit confused. I need help By the way should I post on the mentor now or wait until she's actually in my hot little hands for a day? This was the soup I was going to use: 8 oz raw chicken thigh meat (including skin and fat) 1 tsp of crushed eggshell powder (take a raw eggshell. Rinse it out. Let it dry. Crush to powder) 1 raw chicken heart 1/2 raw chicken liver Water (use more to make it soupier, less to make it thicker)

The recipe looks good!! I would wait until you have Taz and then post in the mentor section, because there are a few forums you have to fill out about your ferret. Good luck!!

The recipe is pretty flexible, you can add what you want (to a degree --- all meats of course!)
Water will help thin it out more than anything, to give it a 'soupy' consistency.
Egg is great to add too - the thing you read is about avidin/biotin binding. What happens is when eggs are fed raw, avidin in the whites binds to biotin (a necessary vitamin found in the yolks) and if fed often, this can cause a biotin deficiency. For this reason, most people recommend feeding only yolks, or only whites on alternating days; or the whole egg just once a week. Cooking an egg breaks down the avidin so this isn't a problem with cooked eggs.
In my soup I add a few hard boiled eggs, shell and all. My kids get egg yolk once a week, and sometimes the whites on an alternating day from the yolk.
I know it can seem confusing, but if you go ahead and start your mentor application/switch thread, these questions will be fully answered by your personal mentor as they come up! So I recommend starting that right away!

It can be very confusing. I quite often thin my soupy with egg, the whole raw egg. If you feed the egg in it's entirety you're basically ok. You can feed only the yolk but then you've upset the balance. You shouldn't feed only the egg white, this can lead to a biotin difficency. Anyway, that's how I've been doing it for years ciao

When you first are trying to switch is it better to use water or egg to thin it out?

When you first are trying to switch is it better to use water or egg to thin it out? to be honest it depends on the ferret some love eggs and it can help intice him/her to eat more . some could careless and water will be just as good and will thin it out much easer and better. The best thing I can think to tell you is to try the egg you can always use water to thin it out more if its needed . then once you dee how things go you can adjust your next batch of soup accordinly
