you should already have called the local authorities about this! start with the police dept - as if there's an animal control officer you can speak to. if there isn't ask them who you DO call to report abuse - could be a county official or there could be an spca that covers the area. whoever it is, you need to call and make a report. immediately!
and then call EVERY time that you see something happening that isn't right. it will take at least a half dozen calls for the possibility of the dog being seized to even be thought about (they give warnings and/or general guidance/instructions first and then will ticket if nothing changes - it takes quite a few repeats before an animal is seized - unless the animals are in imminent danger of death)...so, keep on top of it and make reports. take pics too, if you can...especially if you have a camera that puts the date/time on the pic. make notes of everything, also.
good luck! to you and that sweet little baby...which is all that dog is. a baby. doesn't deserve to be left out in the cold - much less without water or shelter!

I guess choko decided he's had enough, because i didnt have to "help" him escape at all. After they left i saw him biting the rope and playing with it (like he always does) and about a hour after, he was running loose in my yard. And how sad... no collar. We called the guy at the pound, and he knows us and the situation with the neighbors. He had a docter apointment he was going to when we called.. and he wasnt going to be back until late. We said we could keep him overnight and he could pick him up in the morning, and so thats what we did. The neighbors got back at around 9pm. And he was tied up outside since at least 1(thats when i saw him, but he could have been out before that). So that would be 8 hours, without water. Plus its FREEZING outside, and we were supose to have a storm. After i put choko inside i went over and checked their yard, no water. When we told them last time we were going to call the pound if they didnt get him shelter, i dont think they really got the whole idea of a shelter. They have a tiny tiny shed in their backyard, and they opend the door to it (its like 5x5 ft) I went to see it and it was so full of crap, there wasnt a big enough space for him to fit his whole body in there, or even lay down. The only clear space is where the door is opened and its like maybe 2ft wide, if that.
So anyways... choko had a sleep over. The people always say he chews everything he gets and runs around and destroys stuff. Yea well... he was great. He didnt chew a thing. I gave them a little play time in the field, and after that he went to sleep. My plan was for bailey to stay with me on the bed and choko to sleep on the dog bed on the floor. And of course that didnt happen. But hes just too cute... i couldnt kick him off. He snores, REALLY loud, but other than that, he was great. It was so sad seeing him getting taken to the pound this morning (it turns out i dont have school anyways because of the storm, so it worked out) but i know its for the best. The guy said that the law here is that they have to advertise dogs brought in as strays for 1 day in the newspaper, and after 7 days they do up for adoption. He knows the situation, if they come to claim him they are deffinetly getting a fine. He said he doesnt really know how it would work if we adopted him... He said he doesnt know if they could legaly get him back, even if i adopted him.. Hes going to call us and let us know whats going on. So we'll just have to see how it goes i guess.

YAY YAY YAY!! Keep us updated on this i want to know after 7 days if you get your lil choko hes soooper cute =DDDDDDDDDD plus he'd have such a loving home with you. and maybe he chewed on his stuff over there because GASPZORS they never let him out of a cage or always had him tied up. I'm glad you finally got him out of there and just think...its only 7 days. you can go put him on hold and fill out the adoption papers today and if they dont pick him up hes technically already adopted so no one else can take him (i dont know if your shelter lets you do that ours does)

Im so happy hes finally out of there. It was sad seeing him being taken to the pound, but he's better of there than with his "owners". I REALLY hope they dont claim him. The ACO said he wouldnt say who brought him in/called so the people dont know it was us. Just incase they do get him back, i dont want them to be pissed at me. So i can still take him for walks with Bailey. AHH.. 7 days is going to seem like soooo long...

Well, theres good news and bad news. Bad new first, they did get him back. The kids FREAKED when they found out, i could hear them screaming for him from inside. The guy called the cops to see if they picked up any dogs and the cops called the pound. The pound cant just hold him hostage... even though i'd like them too. The next day Mark (the ACO guy) called them and they went to get him. Mark said the guy acted like a complete a$$. He acted like it was no big deal, and like the pound was wrong for taking him. Mark said the guy told him that he just got the dog all new collars and leashes so he doesnt know how he got out... The good news.... Ok, well, when Mark paid them a little visit.. the new leashes and collars seemed to have gone missing... He said they got a fine, i dont know how much $$ it was. When we talked to Mark he said he was making a report on these people and he is going to be visiting them weekly. He told them they have to get him an actual dog house, and they need to have water out there for him. Mark said if we see him running loose at all, just call him and he will come pick him up again. And he said for us to watch for him outside, and to see if they get a dog house and if he is outside without water. If he is he will come straight over so he can catch them "in the act" sorta. He said he has to actually see the dog outside without it for him to be able to fine them for it. So, i dont think ill be able to get him, at least not for a while Im hoping after a while they will get sick of the fines... of the dog will just drive them insane and they will give him to me. But at least they got fined. and hopfully it will happen again.

That is one beautiful dog. I really hope this works out and you get a new family member. No living creature should be treated like that. I would keep a close eye on them and take note of anything you see wrong.

please keep us updated! i realy hope you get the dog. I've been having the same issue with some people down the street. They first got like a little sheperd type puppy, but he got hit, than they got a little white dog and he got a broken leg some how but they never too care of it untill the police took the dog, and than they got a large saitn bernard and kept her outside on a leash allllll day untill the police took her and the last thing i heard was that she had gotten adolpted out to a loving home!
Now these guys still have a rottie named hercules and he just roams the area, barks at people, but is usualy pretty freindly. They havn't gotten any more dogs yet, but i'll call the police on them ina heart beat!
oh and one other note is that one day i was walking all three of my dogs down the road, and he came out with his kids and asked if he could have my s**t-zu mix pup Sadie. I was like noo...and he just said "come on call your mother, thats the perfect dog for us!"......omg that still ticks me off.

What concerns me is the fact that these people will clearly get another dog once (if) they lose Choko permanently. I wish there was some way to get people like this (and the family mentioned by AnimalFarm2006) on some kind of list that marks them as serial abusers. It's so awful

grrr.. i really do hate these people.
Last night at about 7pm.. choko was running around on the sidewalk by himself. He had been chained outside all day, and the people left earlier so they just left him there. I went out and caught him, and brought him back over to the neighbors. They wernt home, so i went over to his chain to tie him again. What do you know... no water. Not even an empty bowl.. nothing. The way they have him tied up is they have a big wire wrapped around a tree, and then they attached the end of the chain to the wire. They use a tiny little leash (like chihuahua sized) and clip the leash to the end of the chain, and to his choke collar. so hes dragging around a huge chain attached by this tiny little clip. Its no wonder he was running loose. The little clip thing just snapped. So i brought him back over to my house.. And oh my dog... we pulled 22 ticks off him. Its not surprising cause the have him tied up right next to a ton of bushes and behind it all like 30 feet away there is a swamp. He is SO nasty. I gave him a bath... and omg i think he turned a different color. The bottom of our tub.. was BLACK after we rinsed im. it was disgusting. His neck has red bumps all over it from the chain rubbing it all the time. He also has a ton of lik little red marks kinda ovaly all on the inside of his ears and on his belly.. ringworm maybe? ive never seen it but its the only thing i could think of. it also could be from being caught in the bushes all the time and getting stabbed by throns. He was stuck in a thorn bush with his chain all stuck around the tree for almost 3 hours before they did anything about it (i would have helped him before, but i noticed him there before we left and when we came back a couple hours later he was stuck in the same exact spot still. a little after we got back was when they "noticed" or maybe it was just when they decided to care) So right now we're at a friends house with Bailey and Choko. I guess we're kind of holding him hostage. They dont know we have him, at least not yet. Right now hes laying on my feet under the computer.. snoring. Im not really sure what to do. We really dont want to just bring him back cause its the same story they wont care what we tell them. The pound isnt open on sundays... i tried calling someone i know that works with ct animal rescue but she didnt answer so i left a message. ahh poor choko... at least he had one good night. he got a spa treatment and him and bailey slept next to me on the bed all night.

Man, some people are just clueless. Next time you see him in that condition, take pictures and show them to the pound. That way they'll know how badly he is being neglected. Take a picture of the ticks, red bumps, no water, and the bath tub after you're done washing him. Anyways good luck with these people!! And give Choko extra hugs for me!

give him good lovins. you should have called the popos on them when you found him like that and as Bigsis said taken photo proof of his mistreatment.. i mean eventually if they get the pound and the cops on their arse enough times for animal abuse they will either stop getting animals or start taking responsiblity for them.

If it was me I would take him to the pound, tell them you found him wondering the neighbour hood and that if he isnt claimed in 7 days you will take him (if you still want to), if they dont claim him from the pound you can have him then...Tell them you havent seen him though.

Yeah, I agree with harrisi, That's a good idea. A week isn't so long to wait, You could get him sooner than waiting for you all to move. 'Cause I doubt they'd look in the pound for him. And then it would all be legal and they wouldn't be able to take him back.

How could anyone do this to this poor Choko!?!?!?!?!?! I would keep him, if you didnt already take photos of the pile of ticks, how theres no water, even no bowl, no nothing.and say you will take him in if not claimed. tell them you have not seen him though, and make sure the pound people do not tell them either.

I'm so glad you haev him today. He needs the tender loving care, The poor thing. You know, Tomorrow you should take him to the pound and visit him everyday, so he knows your not abandoning him, then after the 7 days you've got him baby! And I'm sure the photos and everything will make the shelter people "Hold him hostage" for you, and just not tell the people anything about the dog *if* they come in looking for him. Which I Seriously Doubt.
GOODLUCK! And give Choko Lots and Lots of Love from ALL of us! ;D
