It's very possible he's deaf. Or he could just have selective hearing !

There is that too. I think he's trying to become the dominant ferret in the group. Twitch is the dominant ferret in the group so I'm not sure what to do with that.

My two males are continually trying to shift the pecking order between them . They've both, however, have realized that Sinnead is top ferret of the four . We just let them work it out on their own.

If at all possible you should let them work it out. It can get loud but ferrets, like cats and dogs do a lot of posturing. They're well aware that their teeth can do serious damage. My dominant pair keep the group very well but have also made the decision (much to my consternation) that 9 or 10 is the limit for the business size. They just won't allow anyone else in. So, now I've had to create a second group. There are members of the first group who freely float and play with the second group but Attila and Lady"B" will not allow any of the second group to be with the first. So I now have two groups who play around the house and are kept separate by a demi door. Everyone gets play time in the main part of the house but it's just much more peaceful to keep them separate. ciao

I have 6, and 4 live and eat together and 2 are housed apart from them. (Monitoring health and weight gain/loss on them. They still have playtime with the other 4.) The two that are housed alone could care less when I put food in for them. But the group of 4 loooves to compete. Particularly over bones! No loud screams yet, but plenty of barking and huffing or hissing!! Jaina (the girl in that group) is especially set on getting her first pick of food before anyone else lol.
Sadly, they don't eat wings yet. They play with em. :/ (but they will eat legs. So that's good I suppose.)

Why not?? I've got 4 possibly 5 ferrets that are deaf. Out of 16 ferrets, it's a fairly good odds that you may indeed have a deaf fert. You can test them yourself, but try this site and see www.geocities.com/wolfysluv/deaf.html if any of the information that she gives matches up with your guy. I've got a little girl, she's not deaf but she screams like a banshee She's just got major "tude" and wants everyone to know about it ciao

Well I have a system that is keeping the screaming to a minimum. I have a rubbermaid tub that I stick Kale in with his meat and then I feed the other three together. Kale eats in silence and the other three just hiss at each other, work it out, and then eat together. (or play tug of war). After about 15-20 min, I put Kale back in with the other three to finish his share of food and the others, having had their fill tend to leave him and his food alone.
