I'm in the same position... waiting! I hate it! I found that my rats LOVE left over bones as well, but the mice, not so much. Actually, my mice don't really like anything except for their food. They will nipple on bread a little, but didn't care for broccoli, lettuce, bones, or cucumber. The rats DEMOLISHED a giant bowl of bread, lettuce, and cucumber in about 14 hours, it was ridiculous!

I discovered mine like red cabbage My son hates the stuff and he decided to take his share (pre made mixed veggie salad...they put in some pieces of red cabbage to colour it up ) and drop it with the mice. Well, the "free for all" was about mice stealing and squeeking at each other...reminded me of ferrets with gibblets I really wish it was easier sex baby mice. I spent about 5 or 10 min this morning upending baby mice....by the time I was done... I have no idea. I will try again later this week, maybe some light will dawn and I will be able to tell them apart I did ok with the older ones...at least I got it right because I did get 1 male and 4 females. I think one of my mommas is pregers again....is that possible?? She's still nursing but I do believe she's the one who birthed the ones that I'm separating (or going to try and separate) later this week. ciao

Female mice can get pregnant right after they give birth. It is a really big strain on them.. Some people breed back to back and some don't. I personally wouldn't. Sexing the babies is a lot of fun, eh?? When my mouse had her babies, we thought there were 8 boys and 3 girls.. There ended up being 8 girls and 3 boys. Mice almost ALWAYS have more girls then boys. BTW, if you sex them before its time to separate.. Take two permanent Sharpie markers of different colors and mark their tails.. Its non toxic. Maybe use blue for the boys and red for the girls. It will have to be done again every week or so. -~Ketlin

Wel i went out and got two females today. One is black and one is albino and are both of the right age so as i type this i hear the male mating with them. so all of my females are differently colored so i can tell the difference between them easier

They arent getting eaten they are my breeders. its the babies that will become food. I culdnt feed Athena(piebald female) Artemis(piebaldmale) or Fuzzbutt (black female) But thim not bonded with their babies. It may seem cold and heartless you some of you but its just how i see things

And, of course, you are much more attached to Beast than the mice. You want to know he is eating the healthiest diet possible. By breeding mice for him to eat, you know exactly where his food is coming from, and on top of that, you know what conditions the mice lived in before death, which you have no idea about when you buy meat from a grocery store or pre-killed prey.
So when it comes down to it, it is worth it for your ferrets, because despite someone's emotional attachment to their breeders of feeders, their connection and love for their ferret is stronger!
