Eddiesmom, would cutting up inexpensive cuts of pork or beef bother you? They also make a good musclemeat meal, and mine love them!

NV medallions are a complete meal, as are many commercial raw. NV, as well as other brands, have the organs and bones already in the patties in the correct percentages.
At Casey's Hidden Pantry you can get 12 Stella and Chewy Steaks for $8.50. Each steak feeds 3 pounds of weight per day. So if your ferrets are about 3 pounds each, then 2 steaks will suffice per day. That bag of Stella and Chewy's will last 6 days for your pair. (as they are young, though, they will probably eat more as they are hyer and burning lots of food, and still growing)
1/2 of an AFS mini patty will feed each 3 pounds of weight. So 1 mini patty per day for your pair. A bag of mini patties is $6.50 and there are 8 patties in a bag. Therefore, this will last you 8 days.
For our 6 ferrets we have ziwipeak out 24/7. (2 bags last a week in our house, for our 6 ferrets) We also supplement with soups made either of Stella and Chewy's, AFS Patties, or AFS Sprinkles or some sort of mixture of the above.
Yes, you can supplement your EVO with raw soupies. Many people do that.
Hope this helps....

I know I PM'd this to you, but to add to the discussion, I feed the NV as well as ground raw together. So it really cuts down on how many medallions they get a day. But they are still getting a complete meal so I don't have to worry about the organs.
And then of course theres feeding the freeze-dried and also Ziwipeak as treats. Which is how I think I will go with the Ziwipeak. Its true, Ziwipeak and other freeze-dried is expensive for how little the bag is. Thats why I don't feed solely that!

There are so many ay to approach raw feeding, and you don't have to figure it all out over night - you can strech out one bag of freeze dried raw as long as you want to if you just sprinkle it in with the kibble - and you can feed some medalions too.
One of the biggest concerns about feeding kibble is the amount of carbs. Even if you feed some raw with the kibble, you'll be reducing the carbs. Also remember that since kibbles are loaded with carbs, ferrets have to eat more kibble than raw to get all the protien they need. The freeze-dried foods actually go even farther than the frozen food because they lack moisture - a small bit of freeze-dried food packs a lot of nutrition!

It seems to be a good mix , they dont break down the amount or organs or bones but in the end it probly will all balance out I am sure others will have beter thoughts on it . all the organs you mentioned are good I would also think about getting the green tripe for teeth cleaning and maitnence. as far as how much to get for 6 months its hard to say It realy depends on how much your guys eat a day , for example Heshy will eat about 3 ounces a day and JD will will eat about 4 ounces a day on average so I figure a half a pound a day when I am shopping for my guys your mite eat more or less but it seems from all the things I been reading in the mentor program threads the average is about 4 ounces a day per ferret if that helps Kudo's to you for looking for alternative ways to feed your kids a healther diet ,Also keep in mind once you get them used to eating raw ground it will be easer to feed more whole meats like chicken wings and legs where you wont have to handle the meat much for snacks to help clean teeth and excersise there chaws

Hi! Like Suds said, it doesn't give the breakdown of the proportions, but if you write in, they would probably tell you. As long as everything is in there, I don't see a problem. And yes, 3-4 oz a day sounds about right! I am so glad you are looking at alternative ways to feed Eddie. Good luck with it!

What questions should I ask them about the meat? What percent of organ vs bone vs muscle meat is in the food?

Yes ask the % of meat , bone and organs , Idealy you want 10% organ,30%musle meat And 60% RMB more then likely the ground raw is already properly balance but it never hurts to double check. Another thing to keep in mind is once you do get them eating the ground raw you also will need to find a variey of meats to feed them (the future) variety is the key to keep them interested in and eager for the foods as well gives better chances for a overall balance diets since differnt meats have differnt dietary benifits.

If the food is all premade ground, proportions wouldn't show up as 60% rmb. It would probably show up as 80% meats, 10% bones, and 10% liver and other organs, or something to that effect.

Raw Meaty Bone, such as a chicken wing, chicen drumstick, rabbit leg, Cornish game hen parts, etc. Meat with bone inside that the ferret is able to chew up and eat
