can you leave out raw ground before it goes rank? i've heard so many conflicting answers from other places

It depends...I think a whole piece of chicken (like a leg, wing, thigh) can stay out around 18 hours. Soups can only stay out around 8 hours. I'm not 100% sure, but I think those are around the averages...

I found after about 8 hours, they were no longer interested in the ground. It was too dry!

The furbabies are usually pretty good about figuring out what meats are good or bad. I've seen them chew into jerkied rat but won't eat ground that's a couple of hours old. For the most part, ground will stay good about 6 to 8 hrs and still be edible for a furbaby. ciao

Yeah six to eight was what my kids were comfortable with, so that's why I recommend.
