i found it at the store last night and scooped it up, got home, went to load it into a freezer bag, broke the seal and.... O...M....G. it reeked. i swear it smelled like poop. it was sealed reallly tight. i have no experience w/lamb and i think i just wasted my money thinking i could use it for future b/c how the heck will they take to THAT smell..i seriously just about gagged. so anyway...does lamb stink like this when it's ground, raw, and been in the meat section in an airtight seal where the odor can just well...marinate? LOL... just wondering...has anyone tried ground lamb? i can't yet it was seriously a "for the future maybe" buy (still very much a newbie) but i couldn't pass it up cuz i never see that stuff at the store...and didn't know if it'd be available again. anyway, just wondering. i was blown away.

I haven't ever bought ground lamb, but no meat should smell rank. I would take it back to the store.

I have tried both ground lamb and Nature's Variety frozen lamb medallions.
I had no issue with the ground lamb I got from my natural food store, but the NV lamb medallions were HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE!... So you aren't alone. This didn't smell like poop, but in my opinion, worse! When I touched them the smell would stick on my fingers, even after washing them.
I complained about the smell to my mentor Jennifer and she said that was normal, but I don't know if she meant for NV lamb or all lamb. I don't think I would worry about it since I have had a similar experience!

Lamb is 1 of the few meats that has a naturaly strong distink odor when fresh and depending what was ground up it could have a farely stronger odor to it . its why not many people eat it also has a very strong taste that takes a little to get used to .

Ugh! Really? My only experience with lamb so far has been some soup bones and I didn't notice any smell at all. I do have a lamb shoulder roast in the freezer that is going to be for humans and animals. It's from a reputable, organic farm that I definitely trust. So you're saying that when I thaw that out it's going to stink?

I feed lamb occasionally (have used ground in the past, and various other cuts) but luckily I don't have a sense of smell at all so I never noticed this problem!!!

I have never had a problem with lamb, but I have always fed WHOLE lamb hunks, not ground.

Sounds like a ground lamb with offal and tripe. Really good for your furbabies, stinks like sh** It has to identify what is in it on the outside of the pkg, especially if it has tripe in it. Just a thought. I feed lamb all the time, it does have a stronger smell but is shouldn't smell like poop, unless it has offal and tripe in it. If that is the case then you've got the reason for the smell ciao

hmm i gotta look through the trash for the label now..LOL. it looks fresh and seemed to be new on the shelf so i am really thinking it just has the tripe. it's not *exactly* poop but well uh...it's got a flavor to the smell ...hahaha. it was i guess you could call it shrink wrapped when i took it out of it's fancy packaging..
