Has anyone tried this product? It's a Wysong all rabbit canned food. It is 100% rabbit, NOTHING else. www.wysong.net/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=WOTTPWS&Product_Code=RABBIT&Category_Code=FD&Product_Count=21It says that it isn't a complete diet... but neither is a chicken wing or liver, it all has to be combined. Would you recommend trying this? The can was a buck something on sale at one of the natural pet food shops in town. I bought one and will let them try it in the next few days, but I am wondering if I should buy a few more for a once a month treat of rabbit, which they usually don't get in their diet.

If you don't have other ways to get rabbit into their diet, it's definitely worth it. I haven't used it myself but I do think Wysong makes great products so let us know if they like it!

Only problem I could see with it is that it's cooked. But as a once in a while thing, if you can't get raw rabbit, why not?

As long as its a once in a while thing. I can't always get duck or lamb for my ferrets, so I will occasionally feed duk or lamb jerkey. Yes, its cooked, but its a good addition to vary their diet. We only feed it as treats. If you were feeding the canned rabbit I would feed a little bit daily as a treat OR I'd feed it as a meal 1x per week. I wouldnt feed more then 1 cooked meal per week.

Thanks for the replies guys. I decided to give half of the can I bought to my pooch for her birthday and let the ferrets try some. NONE of my big kids were interested! The baby loved it though, as did my dog, Ajax. Is the consistency of.... really thick gravy? It isn't solid like a can of cat food, but it's more like super thick soup. There weren't really chunks either.
I won't buy duck again and don't want to fork out full price for the other meats!

Most canned 100% or 95% meats are like that. They aren't really chunks of meat, they are mushy stuff. Its still the meat and I feed Evo 95% canned meats mixed in with their raw on a daily basis. Yes it looks gross, but theres nothing wrong with it and it does add a little something to the diet.
Plus it helps with Apple's IBD, so feeding some canned daily is working out for him. I also switch it up, usually feeding what they don't get raw. This week they are trying buffalo, not really a favorite. I am sure raw buffalo would be liked more. And I also feed the lamb, turkey, rabbit, venison, duck, etc.
Plus you could add it to a soupie so you don't waste it. I do that occasionally as well.

Although I have not used the canned wysongs, I've heard a lot of ferret owners really like them. And ys, if you're looking for meaty chunks, you'll be in for a surprise....the canned products are more like a mush...I suspect they were "esigned" o be put on top of kibble for cats and dogs - more like gravy.
That would be a bit of a shock if you're expecting chuks of meat - but I hear that the product is high-quality.
In some cases where the intestinal tract has issues (such as IBD), a more homogenous food (like a wel-mixed soup) can actually help with digestion. Yes it's cooked, bt if raw is going through the system so fast that malabsorption is an issue, then canned/cooked products can be of great value.
IBD is very perplexing....there are serveral forms of it, and the caues are poorly understood if at all. In some cases, it appears that removal ertain foods from the diet is sufficient to eiminate the problem. But quite often, this helps but does not cure the situation.

Oh no, I didn't expect it to be chunky or like a normal can of pet food. Even by shaking the unopened can you could tell how liquidy the insides were. I wanted everyone to know just in case they bought it and were disappointment. I think thats a good idea Pear2apple. There are a few great natural pet stores in my area that sell a variety of canned meats like the wysong I bought. The only problem is getting my ferrets to eat it!

I tried the rabbit once and have a few cans still sitting around the house from an auto order I had with wysong a few months ago. I only tried feeding it once and none of them were into it though. I might try again sometime as a treat.

for those of you who can't get them to eat it I would mix it half and half or 1/4 canned and 3/4 ground raw and maybe some hot water so it isn't so thick and get them to eat it like that. Just play around with different ammounts to see if they will try it.

Why not make it into impromptu soupies?

That's what I do. I was giving Willy, who has a chicken allergy, soupies made from the nature's variety commercial raw. For some reason, though, his system just started rejecting that. He got bad diarrhea and it just wouldn't go away. So instead I make his soup with a can of evo, then I put in 2 stella and chewy's steaks, sometimes a raw egg, and that's it. And now Willy and one of my other ones eats that and Willy's poop is becoming normal again. Not sure if the nature's variety just went bad or what, which is too bad because I liked knowing that he was getting some good nutrients, better than a can of cooked food haha.

Actually, since I still had some pre-made raw, I also started using that for the soupies, too . Since I hate waste of any kind- it made sense! All I'm doing now is the pre-made with water to thin it. They love it!
