Hi Im 16 years old, and I live in CT. Im sort of new to the "ferret world". I had a ferret a long time ago, but my parents made me rehome her when we were moving. But now I have recently gotten a new ferret. Ive always wanted another one, but I didnt really know when it was going to happen. I stay pretty bussy with my current pets, Bailey my lab/shepherd mix from the pound(we do agility, weight pullling and obedience) my 5 cats(Simba, Itty Bitty, Emma, Tigger, and Star. And Mercury who was recently PTS because of cancer), and my 6 reptilles(2 Chinese water dragons, 1 australian water dragon, 1 bearded dragon, 1 leopard gecko, and 1 crested gecko). But I think fate decided it was time to add a little fuzzie to the family. My mom runs a car part store on the side of a pretty fast highway, and one morning while they were sitting in the front office, a ferret ran by the window. He was really skinny and his nails were really long. He couldnt even walk right because his nails made his toes bend up. This is a pic of him the morning they found him.
You can kinda see how long his nails are. You cant see how much his ribs and hips are sticking out becuase of his fur. And of course (being a sucker for animals) she goes and buys him some food and picks up my old ferret cage, (that I convinced them to keep) at the house. Its not the best food, cheap ferret fiesta crap. But cheap food is better than no food.
Ive had him for almost 2 weeks now, and hes seems like hes at home already. I have my "reptile room" all ferret proofed so he can run around in there(All the reptile tanks are up on tables out of ferret reach).
Compared to my last ferret, he is really mellow. He of course has his moments like all ferrets do when they do the crazy ferret dance. But overall he is pretty calm. He just chills and takes his time investigating. When I open the cage to let him out it will take him like 5-10 minutes to come out. Im thinking maybe hes a little older? I tried to guess by his teeth, and he doenst look really old, but its that translucent color about maybe half way up his fangs. From what I can find online that means hes about 5-6?
Ive been trying to find some good ferret forums, and I found this one. I feed Bailey an all raw diet, and Ive been thinking about doing it with mr.ferret. But even with cheap food he is doing much better, and hes gained weight and he can finally walk now that his nails are trimed.
This is a pic of him now, sorry its not very good.
