I was wondering if this was even a good idea. I read the thread above about using a child's kiddie pool and put sand, dirt, leaves, ect in it for the ferrets to play with. That got me to thinking. Ferrets love exploring outside so why not bring the outdoors in. I had the idea to take a kiddie pool, fill it with organic soil and plant vegetation in it. Like a mini garden...inside, and let the ferrets roam around in it. Maybe even let a mouse or two loose in it and let them hunt "in the wild". Seem like a good idea or no?

It sounds like fun, maybe a bit too much work tho! You need to be sure the soil you buy doesn't have anything extra in it. Then be sure any plants you find won't be harmful to them if they chew on them. (Maybe its just me, but Apple likes to chew on plants) All in all, it sounds like a fun time of exploring and getting dirty! I even like the idea of putting mice in there for them to hunt!

The mice will probably jump out of the kiddy pool I like the idea, but you'd need a pool that was pretty deep or else you'll be setting mice free into your home.

Well I could fasten a wire mesh dome made from 1/4" mesh and hook it to the kiddie pool. I could make a little wire mesh door in the dome. Oh! Or I could hook up a tunnel that leads to their cage that way they can visit the kiddie pool whenever they want. Or I'll think of something.
What kinds of plants would be ok to use?

If you make the tunnel better be sure not to add the mice in there!!
Plants I have no idea, Apple eats anything with leaves....so thats everything.

I wouldn't mind if they nibble leaves. I just need to make sure the leaves are not toxic to ferrets. Does anyone have a list of plants that are non-toxic to ferrets?

If you want something really cheap that grows fast is is non toxics then go get cheap bag of millet bird seed (wild bird seed) and sprinkle it on top all over. It will sprout and look like grass. It will be a happy haven for the mice til they get eaten.. So everyone will be happy. It doesn't matter if it has sun flower seeds in it either. They might try to grow and the mice would eat the ones that don't, once again, enriching the mice while they are still around.

I had a problem with it because he'd poop it out and then I thought there was a real problem with him, and it wasn't nibbles either, it was full leaves and flowers! Hopefully you don't have that problem. Anyway, I was going to say, perhaps a list of plants toxic to cats would be similar?
