What has gotten into him?

Fugue has been on a litter box/newspaper/puppy pad boycott all day long.

Normally he's decent about going atleast on the newspaper that we put under the litter boxes outside the cage. Today he keeps going potty RIGHT NEXT to the paper or even in the middle of the kitchen floor!

Do your ferrets ever rebel like this? Every time I've let Fugue out today he's done this. I hate to say it, but he's been in the cage ALOT more today then he normally is. I just dont understand this "poop wherever I feel like it" mentality!

My ferrets were only reliable about using the litterbox when caged. Fender regularly pooped next to the litterbox by the blocked off hallway - I think she was mad she couldn't get through, lol.

Maybe he's just too excited about being out and about to stop and think about where to potty. You know, kind of like a 3 year old? They don't realize they gotta go until it's too late, so they just go where they are....

I get what you are saying, but he goes over to the newspaper and litter box.....and then stops and goes potty RIGHT NEXT to it! ugh.

Fender and Pinkie both used to do this - Pinkie was my sil's female. I don't know why they did it, I was just grateful that I have hardwood floors

I would think that its all of the changes, and yea it a bit of... a payback. You just added two new ones to the family, he may be marking his spot.

Another thing to take a look at is, Toby did that poop next to the litterbox when I set a card table right next to the playpen by the litterbox. I couldnt finger out why he was so good in the cage, and had been doing great in the playpen... and just one day started going next to it. The day I took the card table down he started going inside the litterpan again. I can only guess that he didnt feel safe with the table hanging over his butt.
