Trust me, for your first ferret only get ONE. Then add another. I would have killed myself if I had to deal with two ferrets as a first time ferret owner lol. Give it a few months after you get your first then add another if you want. Having two ferts is overwhelming enough but for a first time ferret owner it would be nuts haha.

Ya I guess theres some logic haha..I know I'll be adding another down the road..I guess I kinda figured I'd get two now and raise them together, but theres logic to having one and learning with it. Okay you and the hubby are right!!

The other side of the argument is that two fuzzies can keep each other company during the day while you're gone, and they know each other already so you don't have to go through the introductions (and/or quarantine) period by bringing in a new ferret buddy.
My husband and I thought we'd get one ferret, and then ended up with two as we walked out the store. We felt it wouldn't be fair to leave one at home by himself fo 10 hours a day as we were at work. We're happy we got two, instead of one. Seeing how they played together helped us learn how to play with them. And they have a snuggle buddy at night and during the day.
That's just my two cents....

I can only tell you how i did and i would say that it worked for me but its probaly not the best way to do do it. Once i got attached to my b/f ferret Freedom and started researching them, we went from 1 ferret to 10 in like 7months. We have stoped and with the exception of the one male we want from someone special we are not getting anymore.

Jojo thats exactly why I want two now..heres the thing..I'm first going to look on craigslist and see if anyone is giving away sets..if they are..and they're healthy I'll go for those two, but if not I may just start out with one even though I feel two would be best while we work and the kids are in school. I have two months to rethink everything and see where my feelings stand, but right now I'm leaning towards 2.

I wanted 2 from the get go, and so I got a pair (off CL). I think it really depends on personal preferences. What you feel you can handle, etc. Age of the ferrets is probably something to take into consideration as well. 2 over 1 year of age are probably way easier than 2 kits... Do be warned though, CL ferrets can come with underlying issues (as can any ferret I suppose). My Goliath was starting to turn adrenal, but "they thought it was just stress". My sis-in-law ended up with 2 sick ferrets off CL, one ended up being PTS. Now, having said that, I would probably adopt off of CL again, cuz I'm a sucker, LOL, and sick animals love me (much to the chagrin of my hubby and my pocketbook!) I also know, thanks to having ferret-sat my sil's ferrets for months, that I can not handle 5 ferrets, LOL. I would like a 3rd, so there would still be a bonded pair of something happened to one (my excuse anyhow, LOL) but I doubt hubby will go for it. Maybe eventually

Wasn't it you that was waiting for your daughter(s) to be home and for your hubby to be home until you got them? If so, you should get them now so you have them to keep you company while they're gone, plus it'll be easier for them to settle in without as many people around and ummm.....I can come up with more! (have I mentioned I'm not a patient person? LOL)

my mom holds the same idea about pits yet my friend has the most kitten like pit I have ever come across My cage came in today!! I want to set it up sooo bad, but my parents come down on the 31st to pick my kids up for a week..I envision my dad sayin "Omg melissa another animal"..when I only have two dogs......its his fault I'm this way. He would bring every single stray he came across home.

I AM IN LOVE!! I went to the petshop where I'm going to get my fert and omg they had 7 little kits. 6 of them were like a whitish color, with one that was white with chocolate legs(my fav. I think he approved of me ), and there was one little sable cutie. I played with them for about 30mins lol They were doing the wardance, jumping off the platform of their cages, using the litter box!!..they had an actual litter box and were using it!! hah! Anyhow..I will be getting my baby after I come back from my vacation in june..so like the 2nd week!!! My hubby wants me to take him so he can see them and play with them to lol We're thinking of getting two just because of the bond they can make..anyway I'm so excited guys!! Once I get them I'll be posting TONS of pictures!!!

Its going to be a definite double. Convinced the hubby. The babes eat softened kibble. That will change as soon as I bring them home. These little guys were like battery charged lol as soon as I picked one up they all jumped up and started playing. I wish I had my camera they were just so cute. I hope the one that seemed to like me is still there when I go back. He was a definite cutie and so curious about my hair, purse strap and fingers. Very soft like nibbles..softer then a puppy nibble lol So giuli..transitioning these guys off kibble..can I just give them raw meat right off the bat? What do you recommend for their first feeding?
