So, I'm fairly sure I'm goign to be switching to raw asap (likely around Nov 5th, as Imma start with mushy food first). . .and I got to wondering. I love duck. LOVE duck. We tend to buy one or two a month whole. . .and I was wondering if the occasional taste of duck would be okay for the ferts? Y'know, gizzards and heart and maybe a raw chunk or two to mix with more regular meat (whatever it is I go with). >.> We usually eat the organs now (the heart in particular is sooo tasty), but I think we could share the wealth with our fuzzies as long as it's okay for them to eat. Silly question, I know, but I just want to make sure before I poison one of them >.< Thanks! edit: justso you guys don't think I'm crazy, we take the leftover remnants of duck (and sometimes chickens too) and make duck stock. . .so I don't eat the organs raw or nothin'. Cuz I just had this mental image of myself taking the organs and eating them raw. . .and I didn't want that same image to be a first impression.

Of course!! I'm sure they would love that. Mine have a duckling waiting in the freezer for them. Most birds would be edible. Wild game is generally frozen for 2 weeks to a month before feeding, but the ones you eat may be bought from a store.

Ooooo yum! I'm sure the ferrets would love to have duck to eat!! Just make sure if isn't cooked when you give it too them. You could also use duck as a whole meal (if you have enough left over) for the ferrets. Congrats on choosing to do the switch!

Napoleon would love you He has a true love of duck. His first encounter with duck was when he was just a baby fert. A friend of mine raises and sell emu, chickens and duck. Sometimes she will clean out a freezer and find something that has been forgotten, that year she found 4 whole ducks which had been frozen way too long for human consumption so she gave them to me for the dogs. So for New Years that year, both dogs got a whole duck each. So there was much happy slurping, crunchings and munchings. About 10 min into this ecstasy Shakespeare, starts whining and grizzling....figuring that Mushu had stolen his duck I went to look. Here is Napoleon, hauling his little fat baby *ss down the hall with Shakespeare's duck in tow. Now he was working hard as that duck had to weigh in about 5 to 7 lbs but he had stolen it and it was his. Napoleon was maybe 10 to 12 weeks old at this time. I went to take it from him and he wouldn't let go. I did finally get him unattached, and he hissed, and gnashed his little fert teeth at me. He did a crazy weasel war dance and then attacked me when my back was turned as I went to return the dog his dinner. As far as Napoleon was concerned he'd hauled that duck down to the fert room, it was his and no dumb dog or momma was going to steal his hard earned meal. I did take a couple of slices of the duck for him but he was some ticked off having to share his dinner with the dog. Napoleon was always stealing food from the dog, poor soul[http://s424.photobucket.com/albums/pp324/pagan30us/?action=view¤t=Napoleonbaby-1.jpgimg] ciao
