Hi everyone! I have been on Natural Ferrets Yahoo group for about a month now. I enjoy reading the digest, even though I contribute very little, I prefer to learn what I can for now!
I have one ferret, Apple 1yr old male, sable I think. I love the little guy! I've had him on a raw diet for about 1 month. He's only eating raw chicken, chicken wings, and chicken hearts. I haven't tried him on other types of meats, I don't have any and I don't know where to look! He won't eat ground beef, I've tried it several times, and I don't think he cares for beef steak either. I hope to find other meats soon.
I do feed him live pinkie mice as well. He enjoys that, its a good treat for him. So I joined here for even more info about Natural Care for him and feeding natural choices.

Hey and welcome!! There are lots of whole pray feeders here so you'll find tons of advice on feeding whole prey as you already give him pinkies!

Welcome. My name is Tim. If you have any whole prey questions, I am a whole prey mentor. Also, it might be best to avoid beef unless it is organic due to the atrocious amount of steroids, hormones, and such. We probably shouldn't be eating it either lol. Pinkies are indeed a wonderful treat, and am I sure they would love chicks, as well as other, older mice.

Thanks for the welcomes! I just realized I haven't checked back here yet!
I've actually switched to more of a raw/kibble diet. A mix of Evo Ferret and Nature Valley Raw Frozen. I think Apple might be sensitive to the raw chicken, so I'm going to start steering away from that. I just bought the NV Rabbit and he seems to enjoy it! I hope to mix up the different NV Raw Frozen options and feed him those. I look forward to increased energy and a beautiful soft coat!
Apple rejected most attempts to feed him anything with fur or feathers on it. He ate a partial crawler mouse, but won't touch a chick or adult mouse. He killed the adult nicely, but wouldn't eat it then. So that was a letdown, but I'll just start young again and work his way back up. I'm just happy he knows its food! He also ate some chick feet, thats it. Wouldn't eat any other part. I have plenty more to try him on though!
Thanks everyone!

A little break down of my avatar and my siggy. In my avatar, the guy in there is my boyfriend, Jon. Yes he does seem overly excited. I'm sure we're laughing at something ridiculous. I picked it because my hair looked so nice, and thats before I got it cut short. Jon is the one who has a tree boa we are naming Mr. Nice, even though it would bite you if it got the change. At the reptile show in Indy, same guy we bought this guy from, was holding another who struck right at my face, he missed me by inches! Nice of someone to warn me. He also has a corn snake named Pickles. I think Jon was joking, but I'm calling him that anyway! He needs a name! I mention the snakes because he is where I get my mice from. Currently his little colony is miserably failing. The babies keep being eaten by their mothers, and then 2 days ago 2 males fought and one died. And then the 2 males left are so jumpy, when you reach to pick them up they practically jump out of your hands! And then my siggy, photo all the way on the left with the mouse. Thats in February a week or so after I got him. Didn't even know what a mouse was, he tried to poop on it. Anyway, he was so dark and his fur wasn't soft at all. Second photo is me teasing Apple with a Foamy Fry. I was taking tons of photos because it was so fun. Third photo Jon was teasing Apple in a box and he rolled over like this, too cute! You can see all his fatty belly! Love it! And last photo, cutest sleeper ever! Cuddling his cute bedding and his pillows! Sigh....LOVE!
