So a couple weeks ago, a coworker of my boyfriend said she found a baby squirrel in her yard that had fallen out of its nest, and the mother never came back to retrieve him. He fell at least 20 feet, and had a broken back leg. The lady didn't have time to care for him, so I figured I'd take him in and try and get him in good health and see where it goes from there. Well, Charlie is about 7 weeks old now, and he's healthy as can bee! We decided that, with his broken leg, there's only so much they can do for him at a wildlife rehabilitation center, so we would see if he could kind of be our little secret.. Turns out he is an amazingly social and affectionate pet. I can't believe how well this is turning out! And here's a video!! flickr.com/photos/haleytab/2929510047/in/set-72157607557242821/

Oh wow! Is there anything that can be done to splint his leg? Or is it broken near the growth plate? He's so cute, now I want to cry, Zephyr brought me a squirrel that she killed just yesterday, and he looked just like your baby! If his leg does not heal properly and he can't be released back into the wild, perhaps you could apply for a permit from the state so that you wouldnt have to worry about someone "finding out" about charlie.

wait, you're planning on keeping him as a 'pet' forever? if you aren't, and have plans to release him at some point you are doing a lot of harm by handing him and treating him as a domestic animal. I know a woman who took in a squirrel and I believe she released her but she lies in the backyard/stays close to home. I can try and contact her if you need any help. good luck, I still (many years later) miss the squirrel I rescued as a kid.
