When we got Ravi he had some NASTY tarter on his teeth, he when to raw the day he got home. Despite eating a mouse, rabbit pinkies, turkey wing, split pig tail, bone-in chicken, deer, beef and buffalo his teeth were still nasty. The night before last I gave the ferrets some chunks of beef trecea and if scrubbed the tarter right away.
I have been giving them human sized bowls full of food and they SOMEHOW manage to pack it ALL away!

At the slaughterhouse, there were these two men there. A old man and another, I was with 3 other women and they were expecting us to cringe and scream when they were killing and gutting the cows. We asked if we could have the scraps, he was pulling them out asking if we knew what they were. He was holding the heart and lungs up by the trachea and asked if we wanted all of it, I said YEAH!

So it was just raw trachea straight out of the cow? Not freeze-dried or anything. Hmmm....I wonder if I could get those at my butcher. I dont know if there are any slaughterhouses near me.

Right. I just pulled most of the connective skin off, there are many layers of it and I only left a few. You can order it from P4P and HTD. The place I got it from was listed under meat packers, they've been there for years.. I've gotten scraps from another place too, I don't think they are listed..
Next week I'll be going to ANOTHER place that mostly deals with deer but also handles everything else.. Maybe I could package some up and send it to you on dry ice... Hehe.

I buy the Oma's Pride trachea rounds, and they work WONDERS on teeth - and I feed mostly ground foods.
The problem with the whole trachea you get in pet stores is that it's very tough. The trachea rounds are great because they're ground up and formed into medallions. I clip them into strips, and the brats gnaw on them. They clean teeth like little scrub brushes!
