Just a note to let everyone know:
Please, when giving your ferret a laxative for hairballs, use a product that is free of petrolium. Petrolium can kill alot of the beneficial bacteria in the gut and your ferret needs that bacteria to stay healthy and to digest their natural food without issues.
Always look at the product you are buying and be sure its petrolium free and sugar free. This is very important!

The reason I was using vaseline is because I had nothing else and it was a quick fix..... Its saved Weezer's life in the past.. And its helped Ravi as well. But I did say in my thread that I know it is bad to use.... I'd use it over Ferretlax Any day.

I've been using the Vetbasis for my fuzzies. Although all I could get ahold of was the salmon flavor.

Just thought I'd pop in and say that Castor oil had been recommended, I tried giving each of the fuzzies a few drops to see if they liked it and they LOVED it. I just didn't like the out come.. Poop EVERYWHERE!! They couldn't controll themselves at all.

Does anyone have the names of some non-petroleum hairball remedies?

The castor oil works, you may just want to restrict the ferrets to a cage for a couple hours after using it since it causes crazy pooping.

Well the fuzzies LOVE the stuff. I would die if they got into a bottle of it, you might have to condim your house if that happened.

I put a tsp of pumpkin per ferret into my soup 2-4x weekly during shedding season, or if I notice one having dry coughs, I'll try and slip them some pumpkin/soup mix separately. If I go a week without seeing hairballs/weird stuff in their stool, then I stop the pumpkin. Just make sure to get plain canned pumpkin, NOT pumpkin pie mix. I tend to use Libby's, but I'm sure it's not the only plain pumpkin out there.

Our Vet also told us to put some powdered Papaya Extract in it because it helps break down proteins and helps the tummy digest more. We have been doing this for quite some time now and have had no blocked intestines so far.
