I bought some pork last week and completely forgot about finishing cutting it up and its been in my fridge mostly wrapped in the syrofoam and cling wrap for about 1 week. How do I know if its gone bad?
The pork isn't red anymore, its grayish with a bit of whitish stuff flaked around it. Looks like powder. Smells kinda funny, but I don't know much about meat to know if its bad or not.
What do you think? And can I still feed it? I am waiting until you reply until I throw it away or keep it. Thanks

as a general rule if fresh meat smells its bad , fresh meat most of the time will have no or very little odor to it , , I could be wrong but from what you describes sounds like its bad

Suds hit the nail on the head. Fresh meat is low in odor, moist, and free of freaky looking spoltches Pork sounds bad. I'd pitch it.

I keep a days worth of meat in a recycled sour cream containers in my freezer until I need them. Every once in a while I will leave a container on our counter over night and it always kills me! In my mind $4 is a lot of money! I am sincerely sorry for your loss

The nose always knows! If it doesn't look or smell right like everyone's said, it's probably bad so just trust your instincts. That being said, I've wrestled petrified, stinking chicken for the mouths of many a ferret. They do seem to know what they can and cannot eat in terms of meat. Mine love to air dry cornish hen. I check their stash spots daily and remove all uneaten leftovers but sometimes they will get sneaky and put it somewhere I don't expect. Usually my nose leads me to it but sometimes I'll catch them eating something. Just the other day (I don't know how they got THIS one past me) but my husband spotted a 6" segment of pork tail sticking out from under the couch!!

Hmmm disgusting meat pieces....yah ferrets are past masters. Lady B came out with a chicken leg, mostly consumed mind you and I haven't served chicken legs in days It's amazing, even though you check on the little bums they still manage to stash something and get some homegrown jerky ciao

Ahhh Lady "B" Itchy.....she had so many names when she was first turned in...We just couldn't find one that suited her. This was my husband's name for her and it stuck. She is without a doubt unique As my alpha female, who weighs in at just under 3 lbs, hates all other females and is big enough to do serious damage to them. She keeps all the boys towing the line including Attila (weighing in at just under 5 lbs) my alpha boy. As both are deaf they're hugely vocal...and they scream at each other like an old married couple I've had the occasion to happen upon a squabble between the two only to watch Lady B gator roll poor Attila grab him by his ear and drag him down the hall, belly up (with his feet kicking and waving in the air) screaming at him all the way like an old fish wife. She then proceeded to attempt to stuff him up the cardboard tube (he doesn't fit). So now she's screaming at him because he's not coming up the tube and he's screaming because she's wedged him in the tube. It's never a dull moment when you have ferts ciao

Hey, I could barely stand up I was laughing so hard, but that's how those two are. I've gone down to the bedroom when I heard screaming and she was busy trying to stash Odin (at the time an unaltered rescue male) between the mattress and the headboard on the bed. I guess she'd had enough of his sexual advances. At the time he had just been turned in and was in full rut. He was doing everything that was moving and a few things that were standing still....unfortunately, my pillows She had been doing her best at avoiding him and I had been doing my best at keeping him from annoying her too much. He wasn't being mean, just pushy...very pushy and very stinky lol, actually he reminded me of that silly lovestruck skunk in the cartoons. I guess she had enough, she was busy stomping him into the space between the headboard and the mattress and he was screaming and she was screaming right back at him. I don't really want to know what was being said...it certainly wasn't printable . No, I love all my furbabies but the more difficult ones are the closest to my heart ciao
