So this is my first graders first full week of school this year and this is the home work that she brings home for the week count to 50 (umm could do that before she was even in K) Say her abc's(umm again since in preschool) Go over he sight words from last year (ok get that one its review even though she can do it no problem) and read a book by the way did i mention that she is the accelared 1st grade class We are stuck with public schools because we can not afford to send the kids to private school. We are trying to move before they hit the 4 th grade but until then they are stuck in public school and the public schools here suck and suck bad. I work hard with her at home but i feel that the teacher and her school should challange her some too. Im sorry i just needed to vent. Back to finding worksheets on the web to print out for her so she can use her brain.

That is horrible. By first grade i was already getting sheets of home works to take home. Spelling to do and other stuff. I hope my niece is more challenged at school. If you can't find many worksheets on-line (which you probably should i remember my teachers printing us off worksheets) You can go to the dollar store i think or wal-mart and buy those advanced first graders work books. I used to do those for fun when i was young. Just to save you some time if you haven't found this one allready this site has loads. www.tlsbooks.com/firstgradeworksheets.htm

My kids go to a public school but they are WONDERFUL about challenging the kids. My son is in 3rd grade and has some learning problems and they do great with him. My oldest daughter is in 1st grade and I guess is average and every day the challenge just gets harder. She hates it but she does so good at it.
Now my little brother in-law is in 2nd grade at the public school down the street. There is no way I would send my kids there. They do the same work all the time. I looked at some of his work and is was almost the same work that my daughter was doing in 1st grade.
It all depends on what Public school they go to. I know some a horrid but some are quite good. We also have some private schools here that are great.

This is a worry that is heavy on my mind lately. My son is 4 yrs old and I will be sending him to school next year. I might end up sending him to a catholic school, just because of how much better it is then the public schools near me.

Thanks for the site, I live one that one We are on a waiting list for the one catholic school near us but we need help paying for it and that is where the problems come in they only do so many scholarships a year and we missed the deadline to apply for this year...already have the paperwork for next year but unless the girls get one i cant afford full tuition. I would home school but socialization is sooo important at that age. I have a meeting with her teacher next week and I am going to see if she can expand Mariska's homework.
