Well I had my interview on Wednesday. I got there 5 minutes early and waited 30 minutes before someone even came down to interview me. The hospital admin (who was supposed to interview me) had a family emergency and they were racing to find someone to interview me. I had what I thought was a really good interview, but because they made me wait 30 mintues I wound up missing my chemistry class (I was supposed to be done with my interview before class).
I still havent heard anything yet. Normally that would make me worried, BUT this was a weird situation (with the admin having a family emergency) I dont expect a call this weekend but I'm hoping I'll hear something this Monday. The person that interviewed me has to talk to the hospital admin before they make their final decision.
If hired I might be getting a position as a receptionist OR as a non-registered vet tech (I'm hoping I get vet tech....that is, if I get the job at all!).
Im a nervous nelly. I want to hear back from these people!!!

There's quite a bit difference between receptionist and unregistered vet tech... Do you think they would go for the tech position?
I know that with my clinic, the owners would like to know someone for a while before they hire them for anything like that...
But if you could get it, that would be amazing! I know you're more than capable, and your performance will be awesome in any job they could give you.
Good luck, keeping my fingers crossssssed!

Well I got a call today from the staffing agency that you go through to work at this vet. They said the vets wanted to know if I wanted a vet tech position (which pays $8 per hour) or a receptionist position, which pays $2 per hour more then the tech position, but is less "hands on" with the animals). I said I'd take the tech position. So I have one final interview this Friday at 2pm with the hospital admin and the head of the vet techs. I think I've pretty much got this, but I will feel alot better once they say "you're hired". Wish me luck! Will update as soon as I know something.

Are you sure it's a "tech" position?
Technicians and Technologists have to actually be licensed..many clinics have unlicensed techs, but it's not exactly legal haha
Would it be more like a vet assistant job? The pay sounds like it. I get 8.75 as an assistant, so that may be what they're referring to. Did they give you a job description?
Either way, it sounds exciting! Will you be working with ferrets?!?!
Keep us updated!

Its an "outpatient technician" position. Basically I call the name of the patient, bring them back into the treatment room. I go over flea/tick prevention and (ugh) nutrition (can't mention raw diets, yeah....thats gunna be a blast, oh well, I'll deal with it). I also draw blood for heartworm tests, take temperature, cut nails, and hold the animal while the vet examines it. I also fill prescriptions and write up invoices, so I guess its technically a "vet assistant" position.
I am still waiting to hear back. I went in to obseve the job on friday. Today I shadowed my ferret vet (like do each tuesday) and while I was in I spoke with the hospital administrator, she said she'd give me a call to let me know about the job asap. should hear something tommorow. *fingers crossed*

I'm going to scream. They were supposed to contact me on TUESDAY NIGHT about if I have the job. The hospital admin told me to my face (when I was shadowing my vet). I KNOW that I have the job they just haven't said "you're hired start on X date" yet. I really need to start working. Rent is due by Nov 6th, and I have been out of work since August. Luckily I get paid every week and I'll be able to get the money in time for rent IF they stop screwing around and just hire me already.
I'll let ya know when I hear something. How funny would that be if we both had the same job? Are you a pre-vet student too, btw?

I'm pre vet tech. So your schooling will be much more difficult than mine I really do hope you get the job, if not for the experience, then for income. I know how difficult it can be to wait and wait and wait for a response. Just too stressful! Everything always seems to work out eventually, though... So don't get too stressed! Maybe find little odd jobs for some quick cash like pet sitting, babysitting, or cleaning houses? Just something to keep you busy while you wait and to give you some income? I'll be thinking of you!
