So hubby and I went out today and we were next to a pet store. First thing we see when we walk in are... you guessed it baby ferrets! They had 3 in this stinky plexiglass box. 2 boys and one tiny little girl. The little girl was eating moist kibble she was almost to small to get into the bowl. I asked to see her. She is so stained yellow and you could just feel how dirty she was. As soon as I put her down the 2 bigger boys woke up and were walking on her. After walking the store we left. Hubby says do you want her? Well yea I want her. He drives off down the street. He turns around and says he forgot something. Drives back to the store and hands me the money. So needless to say we have a new baby girl! First thing I did when I got home was gave her a nice bath. After the bath she snuggled in a pouch and went to sleep. I showed her to Zuko and he just ignored her and ran to the fridge . I had to force feed her some NV but she didn't think much of it. She had just got done eating when I got her so I'm sure shes not that hungry. She is 265g or 9 1/4 oz. They told me she is 8-9 weeks old. Her birth date is June 24. She is a bitter but I hope that will stop soon. She is half the size of Zuko and they suppose to be only 1 month apart. Well enough of all that here is our new little girl! Katara (I think for now lol)

Ohhh can I please have a snuggle too What a tiny little thing. Poor wee one....so young, so tiny. I'm so glad that you went back and got her. She's beautiful. Remember, because she's a she....Zuko is going to be twice her size, even when they're full grown. All my little Marshals girls are very tiny compared to the boys. It's only my path Valley girl that weighs more than some of my Marshals boys and she's still a pound or so smaller than the Path Valley boys...she just makes up for it in sheer nastiness She loves to make the boys squeal. ciao

Yea she is from Path Vally. She is getting LOTS of snuggles! The kids went crazy! My son thinks she is his for his birthday. I told him good he can clean the cage do the laundry and feed them. He said he would do it all but the laundry Such a little man. When do they get the big k-9 teeth? She still has two little sets. Last night at about 8:00 I fed them some chicken. Zuko was a pig like always. Katara didn't know what to do so I hand fed her. Once she got a good bite she went to town. I gave her an Oz and she ate about 1/2 an Oz. So at 11:00 before bed I gave her the other 1/2 oz and she went to town again. This morning I gave her some NV and she wouldn't touch it unless I fed her by hand. She ate a bit but didn't want any more. So I gave her some chicken and she was going to town again. Again she ate about 1/2 oz. I'm going to add her to the switch page. I didn't even buy any kibble. If worse came to worse I had some evo sample packs.

I'm presently doing a study on my own and anyone who wants to add can help me out but switching to raw feeding Path Valley and breeder ferrets seem to be much easier than the Marshals. The one bonus is kits are just hungry little eating machines They snarf down everything and have to taste it all. My Napoleon never did eat any kibbles. I picked him up the day they were given to the pet store. They were having fits because they had 7 little fuzzbutts and none were eating kibbles. They were trying to get them to eat duk soup and all the employees were syringe feeding the little bums. Napoleon still had a little stitch on his belly. I don't normally buy ferrets but at the time I had a senior who had just lost his mate. He was a sickly ferret (a male weighing in at less than 450 grams, with ulcers and suspected IBD and when his little friend Pandora passed on, he curled up to follow. I couldn't bear to loose him too...I was talking to Randy at Ferretaid and she suggested that we get him a companion of choice (he didn't meld with any that I had). So on an off chance I took him to a pet store, who's manager I trusted at the time, a couple of hours from here and we put him in the cage with the new babies. He chose Napoleon. Sort of picked him up and stuffed him in a corner and every time Napoleon went to leave Mischief would pick him up and put him back in the corner and snuggle him...Napoleon was into it too. So I bought him. While we were getting all the paper work done, Napoleon was placed in Mischief's cage...which had Mischief's raw meal in it. One of the employees was in the process of telling me I had to buy some duk soup as the kits weren't eating and I was going to have to syringe feed my new little one. Napoleon was doing some major kit whining, maybe because he was suddenly without his mates but more likely because he was hungry. Little Mischief scruffed a whining Napoleon and pulled him over to the food ... Napoleon put both feet in the bowl and literally inhaled almost all Mischief's dinner. The staff were horrified, they told me I was going to kill my baby ferret. The manager laughed....told them I knew what I was doing. That maybe, they should get some raw meat for the rest of the kits as Napoleon was now curled up in the hammy with Mischief, fast asleep with Mischief grooming him from head to toe. Napoleon became Little Mischief's sleeping companion for another 18 months when he finally made the passage to the bridge (at almost 9 yrs, due to lymphomas). I found him still and quiet, with Napoleon sleeping with him trying to keep him warm. Napoleon has since taken up with the rest of the rambuncious crew of Path Valley ferts here ciao

Well as far as I can tell Katara (Path Vally) has been more of a challenge than Zuko (Marshals). I'm not sure if it is because she is so young or what. No way do I think she is 8 weeks old. The other 2 in the cage with her yea but not her. She will eat chicken like there is no tomorrow but the NV shes just not in to much. Zuko is just a little pig! He is eating 2 oz at each meal 3-4 times a day.
This morning when she was eating she pooped in her tote. It was bright green. I told my hubby to keep an eye on her today because I'm at work. I hope it is just all the new food. I also noticed that Zuko's pee has been neon green. Is this ok? He doesn't seem to be having any problems but it just started doing this at the beginning of the week (as far as I can tell). He has a spot in the kitchen that he like to go on when he is out.
Katara is getting better about the biting. She is mouthing but not hard biting much. How do you know when wrestling is not playing? I keep a close eye on them when they play and with Zuko being so much bigger it is hard to tell. Also Zuko is use to playing with the cat and dog so he can get kind rough.

Heather, the one path valley ferret that I have had (Wednesday) took to raw/whole prey better then any of my other ferrets......then again she WAS 6 weeks old and hadn't really had a chance to imprint on kibble.
