We've got him walking. We've got him eating. We've got the infection under control. now he's chewing his infection site! No wonder its infected between that and him suddenly deciding he wants to lay in the litter box (go figure, he has 3 beds right now!) his vet isnt open today and the only emergency vet around is the one that killed my guinea pig with an overdose. can I spray bitter apple on it? how about those cone collars they have for dogs? do they come in ferret sized?

I just tried to imagine a ferret in a cone lol I dont think it would stay on long . I would say try a drop of bitter apple but I dont know if it will burn like putting salt on wound or if it would contribute to more infection , hopefully someone else her will be able to tell you . But I am glad he is starting to become his old self again he has a great ferrent !

when my Crash broke his foot and was in a cast the vet took a plastic drinking cup cut off the bottom and wraped medical tape around the rough edges ( like 3 times around) and used that as a cone coller for Crash. Now just so you know Crash went through like 4 of these in 3 days before we said lets see if he even goes after his cast (which luckly he did not) so you can use that idea but be prepared to replace it often. Hope that helps some

idea for a cone for him... or any other ferret that needs one ... we just experienced this a few days ago with a friend's jill who tore open her spay insiscion ... get the smallest the vet has .. then cut it down to ferret size... stitch the collar onto the ferret's harness in about 4 -5 places and fit.. easy peasy!
you'll need to keep them in a quiet location and one that doesn't pose a strangulation risk if they fall .. ie.. a nice fleece on the bottom of an empty cage while they heal...
you'll also want to take it off to allow some movement and freedom .. be sure they are eating and drinking and if you need to take off the collar so that they can ...they dont LIKE it much but settle down relatively quickly

At the clinics I've worked for, we've used two things: 1: As an above poster said, a plastic cup with the bottom cut out. (just use looots of tape to cover the edge!!!) 2: We found funnels with a wider base. (like a motor oil one or something) and we just cut off the "neck" part.) Again, tape tape tape. I've learned some pretty intricate ways of tying them on using gauze wrap.. But none would help if your lil one has a wound on his belly. Also, I don't recommend using bitterapple anywhere near a cut or skin abrasion. But what ya can do is put some on his fur on the side of his belly, or close to the wound, and when he goes to mess with it he should smell the bitterapple and not want to go any further. Hope that made sense. I'm ending a 14hr work shift. :/
