Chewie continues to lose more fur and is becoming more aggresive. I have Oliver and Chewie seperated right now because Chewie attacked Oliver while he was sleeping. He grabbed him by the scruff and shook Oliver around and then pinned him down while hissing as Oliver whined. Before he did that he has been attacking Oliver during playtime. Chewie will do nothing else. He just chases Oliver around and scruffs him and shakes him around. It hasn't caused any physical damage to Oliver yet, but Oliver gets very nervous after this. I don't have the money right now to get a surgery done and I don't even know if he is a canidate. He may be 5-6 years old for all I know. His owner told me he was 2, 3, and 4 years old at different times. He is deaf and blind (from the tests I have taken at home) and may have a urinary tract infection. He is a sweet heart to people, but even goes after my 55 pound dog! I have been considering maybe a melatonin implant or lupron, but not sure if they'll even work. I don't have any medical history on Chewie and don't even know if he's been to the vet ever. His old owner's vet convientley moved to Florida and was never heard of again. This is becoming very stressful and hard on my family watching him go through this. So I guess my question is, is it worth it? For him to go through all this and us having to watch him go through it? I want him to have a fair chance at life, but I don't know if it is fair. He may have had adrenal a year before I got him. I guess I'll just have to take him to the vet and see what he thinks. We've only had him 2 monthes and he's only been in our house 4 weeks, but I still love him enough to do what it takes to make the best choice for him.

If you do not have the money for the surgery you do need to get him to the vet, between the lupron and the melatonin one or both of them should do something. I am sorry that you are having such a hard time. But please get him to a vet asap I know that you only want best for your babies

I would keep them separated no sence in putting Oliver in all that stress , Then get Chewie to a vet as soon as possible to start what ever treatments you and your vet think is best , from what I have been reading the meds seem to work quickly and the agreesion should subside and you can let them play together again with less problems . ( just me 2cents )

In addition to the adrenal issues, Chewie could have a prostate problem, or it might only be a prostate problem. Either way a vet can help you figure it out.
Keep us posted! Cheers. Kim

you knew when you took him in he'd need medical attention, so have your family get him some. I personally, would go for Lupron before melatonin. If you want to try melatonin you can get an implant or give liquid/pill meds. What makes you think he has a UTI? having trouble peeing? That is yet another symptom of adrenal in males. You know he is adrenal, he has all of the classic symptoms, so its time to atleast try something. If surgery isn't an option than treatment is the next step. If you aren't wanting to try, than it might be better to contact a shelter and ask if they'd take him if he'd get treatment. Read up on Adrenal and possible treatments. www.miamiferret.org/fhc/www.ferretcentral.org/faq/med/adrenal.htmlGood Luck.

Ok so me and my parents talked it over and we are going to try very hard to get the surgery done. I will be taking Chewie to see a vet first to see how old he is, if he has other problems, and what the best option is. If he says to go ahead and get the surgerey done there is someone near us who will do it for $300. Thanks everyone!

I would probably opt for treatment over surgery but you need to do something. He will not get better on his own. I thought that was the plan when you took him in? In the meantime, keep him separated from your other ferret.

Yes that was the plan. We thought then he was younger (3 ish), so we planned on surgery, but as time prgressed it seemed he was older than that cause his teeth look really tarnished and according to home tests he is hard of hearing and has a hard time seeing things which I think appears in older ferrets? He also didn't have much interest in playing, but that is probably due to the adrenal. We are still going to get treatment or surgery. We have to check with the vet first to see what's best for him.

Thanks sherry!
I have a question about Chewie. I read that adrenal ferrets usually get adrenal? Chewie is bouncing off the walls lately!! He used to cuddle, but now can't sit still!!! I don't know what's up....I mean more energy than Oliver!! It's crazy!! Not sure if this is good or bad.....

That is possible....It's like on a scale from 1-10 he was a 6 on his most active day (usually 4) now he's a 9.5-10!!!!

Oliver and Chewie are in separate cages right now and Oliver seems to be less tense...I feel bad for Chewie cause Chewie wants to be his friend. He'll be all nice to Oliver and then he snaps and gets EXTREMELY aggressive. Oliver cowers away from Chewie unless Chewie is in a cage or I am holding Ollie, then Ollie starts hissing. They've been separated a few weeks and neither seems to be suffering from the separation.

No he loves everyone, but seems to go after my dad, brothers, and male dog. He hasn't bitten any girls yet... He grooms me and when he's tired he snuggles up and when playing he runs and dooks!
