I hope the mother and grandmother are getting into some sort of neglect problems, but I doubt it. They always blame the dog because the parents weren't paying attention!
And no, I can't mentor the girl because I am no longer friends with the Mom. That family is messed in so many ways, I cannot associate with them anymore. Not without a good lecture every time anyway!

Ketlin not all children raised with hardly any attention cut themselves. I used to do it ALOT and my parents are highly attentive to me. Just because you raise your parents doesnt mean you'll get int drugs or cut yourself my best friends father is an alcoholic drinks himself into a stupor NIGHTLY and has been doing so since she was about 5 and shes less mentally screwed up than i am and i had BOTH parents being parents.

Yes, attention CAN have something to do with it but from experience its not usually the biggest cause. Also, putting self harmers with junkies, unless its simple self medicating, isn't right. Everyone has their reasons, you'd be amazed at how many there are.

On a dog forum that i am on there is a thread going on about a 12 week old lab puppy that was put to sleep because it mauled and killed a 3 month old baby while the mother and grandmother were in the house, what had they put in their bodies that they did not hear that poor poor baby screaming as the puppy mauled its feet and legs. There are too many ppl out there who have kids and should never have had them. Wow.. That dog was only a puppy who probably didn't know how to not bite hard with adults let alone a baby. Why would these grown ups even let the puppy be able to get to where the baby is unsupervised? I agree that it's more the mother and grandmothers fault for this and why would they just ignore a baby's screams? It's not like babies cry quietly.

I don't know where that was at, but the same thing happened with a pit bull puppy gnawing the foot off of a handicap boy in a wheel chair, I think in Ohio. Luckily the boy couldn't feel anything, but the Mom totally didn't "notice" for like 2 days and then suddenly brings the boy to the hospital claiming she didn't know what happened!

Poor kid. Some people just shouldn't have kids. I don't know how you wouldn't notice the blood or when she had to help him into the bathroom that he was missing something.

What are 4 foot-tall people supposed to weigh? When I was younger, all the kids were pretty open about her weight, and I am always the lightest, so they made fun of me for it. I ended up figuring out what most people my height weighed and then just said I weighed that to keep people from bothering me. She seems kinda tall for six (but then what do I know, I am five foot one), so maybe the higher weight isn't being considered proportional by her friends.

My daughter is according to her pedi dr in the 95th percent for girls her age and height, so yes she is tall for her age. But she is thin for her height. the average 6 year old girl is 41 inches tall and weighs in at 46.2 lbs. so my daughter is 48 inches tall and 51 lbs, she is actually underweight if you do a BMI (i have no idea what hers is but i was talking to the dr and she looked at her chart and said that she comes in as underweight but she was not worried about it as my daughter has always been tall and thin)

She may be saying that about herself because other kids are. I mean, I am skinny like your daughter, but no one wants to hear me say, "I'm so skinny, my pants are falling off." It's better socially to complain about something that everyone suffers from. If her friends all think they're fat, she may have to pretend she's fat to fit in, and it may have snuck into her home life frame of mind.

It sucks that 6 year olds are thinking like that. They are supposed to be worried about barbies and sleepovers and playing outside getting new bikes stuff like that. BUt instead they are worried about their weight, clothes and hair. THe amount of time i see these kids put into their hair and clothes i never did until i was dating in hs. its a shame our kids are growing up way to fast.
