12 cubic feet is about 4 1/2 feet high and about 2 feet of girth Maybe you could say 2 lawn and leaf bags

Thanks stinkweasels that helps. That will fill their dig box for a while, I think I am going to order a bag. If I remember right after taxes and s/h it was like $30. P2A they look like they are having soo much fun there. I love when they play like that.

I hope you haven't bought them yet. Read this post. I am not sure if this is what was wrong with him but after I took them away he hasn't had any problems holisticferret.proboards80.com/index.cgi?board=medicine&action=display&thread=1185To answer your question do they like it yes they love it. The girls are angels about it. Loki even liked to lay in the box and relax. Mr. Bean however was a little demon and would dig himself to the bottom of the box and I would tu n around and see the box vibrating and reach into the peanuts and as soon as I got near his mouth to stop him from eating them he would move away and bark at me. They have a faint yummy smell to them and I assume since he has lost a sense (hearing) maybe his sense of smell is better than the girls. Or the girls just really don't care. You can get a box WITH peanuts for 20.98 (s/h included) And they pack it to the TOP it is so full I had to take out a grocery bag worth of peanuts because they were flying out EVERYWHERE which gave Mr. Bean more of a chance to eat them. (GRRRRR) The box is HUGE too. They can almost not even climb into it I had to use another small cardboard box to use as stairs for the girls to get into it. Heres the link. Use at your own risk.I Waisted my money on it. www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=17342+17359+18172&pcatid=18172

If you're really unsure about it you could always find packing peanuts in any other shipment, like from Stinkweasels or Foster & Smith and then give them a small box of it to try out. If they start muching, take it away.
Soon here I'm going to try crumpled up pieces of newspaper. Just to give them something new. I don't know for sure though, they LOVE their peanuts! But mine aren't allowed the cornstarch ones because they ate them. They don't eat the regular ones. Maybe I'm just lucky they don't care for the bad ones!

I did the newspaper and all of my white and light colored ones started getting newspaper colored so i stopped that. I have been thinking of getting the fishtank biofilter balls and using them esp. since they can be washed off when they get dirty.

I went to the dollar store and bought 12 packs of plastic golf balls and put them in a small tote. He had a blast! he can't eat them, he can play with them out of the box and it is easy clean up. Seeing we only have one this worked great. I'm not sure how well it would work for a bunch. You could go to the toy store and get the larger balls (the ones for the ball pits). I'm not sure if they would be to big.

All you can do is try them. Crystal is my ferret that will eat them. So I only allow access to the penut bin occasionally. I get mine from Staples or an office supply store. I get a huge bag for around 10.00 -14.00 bucks! I've also heard that U-Haul dealers are a good source for them!
All my ferrets have a blast in them!
The only difference is that they don't clean the ferret's coat like rice does. But as far as fun factor- its way up there!

Glass marbles also make a great dig and roll bin. They are a tad expensive- unless you get lucky and find 2 for 1.00 bags like I did at the flea market's dollar tent! Marbles don't clean their coats like rice does, but they offer tactile sensations for the deaf ferrets and noise for the hearing ferrets. I have two bins. One a shallow tray only two inches tall that sits in the bathroom which is at the end of the hall. My guys will zip down the hallway and make a flying leap into the bin and slither through it.
The other marble bin is inside a nylon pop open cat cube. Two ferrets will climb inside and wrestle among the marbles.
They don't eat them, and they don't try to stash them. I also have another cat cube filled with ping pong balls and tiny whiffle balls - these they DO pick up and run about stashing them.
Cheers, Kim
