I bought one of those dig boxes from theferretstore.com and he will jump in the box and eat a half a peanut or so ( they are biodegradable made of potato starch) and Tonight I decided to wet their kibble down well he just now woke up and puked about a half a teaspoons worth of brown liquid (digested kibble I guess) should I give him any pepto? Oh yea I have also been putting ACV in their water I have a 10 oz stainless steel lock on dish and I put in half a teaspoon of it. Should I leave it out?

If he's having tummy issues you can leave the ACV out, but then again if you change his water it might agitate it more. Play it by ear.
If the peanuts are biodegradable I wouldnt worry about a blockage. Vommiting is the bodies way of removing harmful things from itself. He's probably fine. IMO vomitting once is okay. More then once VERY bad. Keep an eye on him. PM reedgirl20 (shes a vet) she can give you the correct dosage of pepto (?) or something over the counter to make his tummy feel better.

He did it again. There is some in front of the food dish and some in 2 spots on the top level. Since everyone is asleep I am going to give a small ammount of pepto .25 mg I read on a ferret forum too worried too look which one right now. I'm really worried about him because this happened out of nowhere. He is pooping which is good.

The one down by the food dish was the biggest one. It looked axactly like the moist food did before he ate it. Maybe he got too excited and ate too much too quickly.

More than one pile of vomit is NOT good! Ferrets cannot afford to vomit too many times before it causes serious physical harm. I would definitely be considering a blockage as the cause of this problem and be readying him for a trip to the vet's! It isn't often that ferrets get overly excited about moistened kibble- at least not enough to eat enough to choke them - could the kibble have not been moistened thoroughly and he may have swallowed a large piece of dry within the moist? Did you double check the dissolvability of the peanuts? ANd check that there were absolutely NO styrofoam ones mixed in? Please keep us posted! Cheers, Kim

I haven't gave them the wet kibble in awhile. I crushed it into a powder before I wet it. And I made it cat food like. There may have been a few pieces that weren't crushed all the way. So there is a possibilities he swallowed an unchewed piece. He ate quite a bit of it in one sitting I noticed. He is pooping well and acting a fool now. There was no more vomit in the cage this morning. I think the pepto fixed whatever was wrong with him.
What kind of physical harm does vomiting have on them?
Yes I have checked the dissolvability of the peanuts everything I have caught him with one the portion that is in his mouth is already dissolved. This company doesn't use Styrofoam peanuts.
So As far as I know he is OK and is acting OK I will give him some lax as a precationary measure.

Dehydration mainly which if not recitfied quickly can cause irreversibale kidney damage.
Their esophagus can become eroded from the stomach acids.
They can aspirate the vomitus and choke to death.
Glad to hear he is back to normal. Still a god idea to double check those peanuts- sift through them and look for color and material consistency. Toss a few into a glass of water to check that they are in fact water soluble.
Cheers, Kim

Not to scare you, but last time Keawea threw up she had a blockage. She managed to throw up the blockage itself (a hairball) but that's pretty uncommon. Usually they need surgical intervention. But if he's acting better now he probably doesn't have one-just something to think about in the future. Glad he's back to normal!

I want to tell you this but I dont want to scare you. Even though those boxes that they sell with the potato starch packing peanuts say they are degradable if eaten if you read closely or research them they say only if they ingest 2 or less, they dont guarantee if many are consumed and cause a blockage. This is exactly what happened to my friend, her ferret ate one too many of those and had to get surgery for a blockage that those exact packing peanuts caused. I thought that was a cool and fun thing at first and thank god she told me of her story! Plus I haven't heard anything good about that product only that it keeps them entertained (but honestly I would never trust my babies in one of those boxes!)
If your still noticing a difference in the way he acts I really wouldnt hesitate bringing him to the vet just in case!

Thank you for the concere and warning. He was back to normal within 24 hours. I gave him 2 small doses of pepto bismol (12 hours apart) and he was back to normal. I have since put the 11 dollar waste of money of top of the ferret cage and don't know what I am going to do with it.
