I say english blood because I have heard many times that ferrets from across the atlantic tend to be more prey driven then americanized(or canadian) ferts.

I joined a ferrets and ferreting forum to try and gain a little insight to more of the predatory nature of ferrets as well as to have some questions answered and boy are they a strange lot! To start with they have a serious preconception that pet ferrets are all fat and lazy. that feeding them live prey is somehow barabaric - which makes no sense to me when they use the ferrets for hunting and the ferrets will often "lay up" (kill the rabbit). Many of them think it odd that ferrets should need to eat bones! And don't get me started on the apparent lack of knowledge regarding health issues! For such a large group to have such a long heritage of working side by side with these animals- they know precious little about them! Because I am a "pet ferret owner" they have deleted three of the threads I started or participated in! They are definitely a close minded group!
Our live prey, whole prey eating ferrets are already a step ahead of theirs!
Cheers, Kim

Kim I joined a ferret forum that was mostly people from the UK and I have recently quit that forum, all this happened within a week btw. All because of a ferret diet topic, I said I feed live mice and I got my comment deleted, a Formal Warning that I appealed, and then everything I had written was either deleted or moved to a totally different thread! And I can't even delete or modify my own comments!!
So obviously I went searching about this topic of feeding live animals, and I searched online and its not illegal to feed live prey. Its frowned upon by the RSCPA and if you make it known that is what you are doing, then it is a problem. But in the privacy of your own home it is ok. Also if it seems the kill is taking awhile and the prey animal is being "tortured" is really what the problem is, however ferrets don't play with their half-dead meals. When I pointed this out to the ferret forum admins they said nothing but said I was pushing my opinions on others aka the facts about the ferret diet! I gave sources and yet this admins was in total denial. What makes it worse, and really burns me up, is this person is admins to a ferret forum and advocates feeding their ferrets RICE and flour and FRUIT, on a REGULAR basis!! I have never been so mad then seeing my comments on how bad that is for a ferret deleted, and then rerouted to an entirely different topic!!
Sorry, I didn't mean to hijack, just a similar experience to Kim's.

Do people not realize that ferrets do this naturally? Wow, close-minded is right. I have dealt so much with people like this concerning unassisted (human) births. We call them mainstreamers, and sheep They follow the herd.
