i'm posting here because i didn't want to take up room in medical because there was no issues (sorry if wrong section).
well, after being very dissapointed when baby bear got his initial exam when he was a kit (the vet was SCARED to hold him!), i'd been searching and asking around for a good ferret vet in this small area that i live in. i was hoping i wouldn't have to go somewhere an hour or two away....i finally found a recommendation and checked her out. monkey's vaccinations were due this month. well.......
i am very excited! she is only thirty minutes away and totally wonderful! i was very impressed with the exam she gave. she is VERY knowledagable about adrenal, insulinoma, etc. (the last vet just guessed and treated my baby like she would a cat or small dog ). she even poured ferretone onto the table for him to lick up as she vaccinated him. then she had me wait for a little while so we could watch for any allergic reaction.
he only got a little sleepy (she said this and some loose poop would be normal) so they let me leave.
while i was talking to her i found out she runs a ferret rescue!
she has her own babies at home and even fosters strays, etc. at her home.
i told her i am DEFINITELY coming back to her to bring baby bear in october when he's due. she asked what he was like and she said she had a soft spot for DEWs
i am so glad i found her as i was really worried to bring any of my kids to a vet if they weren't educated about ferrets with vaccines. monkey was dooking around the house and took some long naps that day but was fine and the energy level went up by the next morning
oh, AND...
monkey is 2.7 lbs. and he is the SMALL one. i told her baby bear is definitely at least at the four pound mark then even though he eats low carb food and has tons of exercise. once i told her he was a canadian though she laughed and said not to worry it's all genetic makeup then and she loves little, bigbutts like that. (most people see baby bear and scream "that's the biggest ferret i've ever seen!"). i will be very curious to see what he weighs in october. i told her he was deaf and we both laughed on how loud they are b/c she has a deafie at home as well.
she also asked what kind of food they get..i told her their mix and even listed off the carb percentages then told her they get soup everyday and what i mixed in that and how i cooked it. she was impressed (yay!) and held up monkey and kissed him and told him he is eating lots of good food ;D
anyway, had to share how excited i am to find a vet like this in my dinky area...woo hoo!
