...but here I am.
I'm Dresden, I'm sure some of you know my screenname from atleast one other forum. I have three ferrets, and next march will mark my six year owning ferrets. I've wanted to do raw for a long time but after several failed attempts I just read and stuck with the highest quality kibble.
I'm hoping to switch my guys someday as I've been told over and over "it's never too late to switch". Teencie will be six years old in a few months so I'll need some extra help.

Hi VFB! WElcome to the natural world! Yup it is NEVER too late to switch them! I got two 5 year olds that were very entrenched in kibble to switch! Sadly one has passed on from insulinoma, but his last year was spent rather active and he did things he never got to do as a cage kept kibble cruncher! His cage mate is turning 7 soon and she is still going strong! It can be done and the older ferret WILL show tremendous improvements! Even when you think they are already healthy- the level of health they achieve on the raw/whole prey/natural diet is off the charts!
Glad to have you here! Cheers, Kim

Hey Dresden, its great to finally have you. Im so excited to help you out and get your babies onto a natural diet! De switched to a natural diet this year (she is 8 years old) and Sams (RIP) was 6 years old when he switched. Older ferrets need special attention when being switched and they can take longer to switch (but not always) but dont worry, if you are patient you can get them switched. Some people ask me why I bothered to switch De's diet when she is 8 years old, but the change in energy, the better hydration levels, and the muscle "regrowth" that she's shown since switching (she had the typcial adrenal muscle wasting) has been wonderful! IMO older ferrets need a highly digestable diet THE MOST. Just follow the links you were given and we can get ya started. I find its easier to stick with things when you get personal assistance and monitering That is what the HF forum is her to do, take you by the hand and guide you. Many people try to go raw and fail and that doesnt mean their ferrets cant ever go raw. Sometimes all it takes is trying a different switching method and bam! in a few days what seemed impossible is actually happening! Your ferrets are eating raw! Above all it takes patience (as mentioned) and perserverence. Best of luck and stick with it! We are here to help!

Hi and welcome on board As everyone had told you were to go I will just extend the invite to prowl around, ask questions. If you decide that you want to try the natural route, I'm sure that there is more than a few that are ready and willing to help out. A fuzzbutt is never too old to switch. My little Babushka (9 going on 10 yrs) is a perfect example. She and her little friend Pooka (6 going on 7) were turned into me in June. Both are now munching and crunching away on whole and ground raw meats and enjoying a new lease on life. Hope to see you around ciao
