Today is day 3 of weaning the little kits onto the raw diet! They are doing pretty good, although I am still giving them replacement milk everynow and again (mom is in a sock due to having mastitis, she has had it since they were 1.1/2 weeks old although the kits have had a nurse from a foster mum everynow and again but she is agressive so we cant trust her with them. Anyway all is good so far! Day 1. Kits are 4 weeks old and found them drinking raw duck soup and licking chicken wing. Going to mince some rabbit for them tomorrow. Day 2. Gave them some minced rabbit and chicken in soupies today, only had a little bit of the minced meat but not expecting them to eat much anyway. Also drunk soupies and 2 fl.oz of replacement milk each. Day 3. Gave them some chick legs and a rabbit hind leg. 3 tucked in to it, Marco and Polo tried a bit but prefered soupies. Played with the rabbit leg bone and chewed it to peices. So, Marco and Polo are going to be more difficult, but now they are all rejecting replacement milk and wait for soupies what have I got myself into?!

Can you mix the milk into the soup instead of using water? Or even inject some milk into the muscle tissue of the meaty bones they get. Youngsters need the milk. Good job! Youngsters getting the right start in life!

I have been putting the milk in the soups, will probably keep them on it until they are 8-9 weeks old, then slowly decrease the amount of milk. The old guys get it every now and again anyway (good for keeping weight up, and the ingredients are all "natural"!) so its no problem to mix some milk up every week or so. Day 4. Baby doing well again, the minceing machine totally busted up so walked to the local butcher and he minced loads of meat (lamb, beef, rabbit, quail, chicken necks etc) for me on the deal I cleaned it, lol. They are still getting soups for the milk although when they are actually eating the raw meats I will go back to milk in a saucer, whenever that is!.
