Because I opted only to vax him for distemper since he never goes outside and his adrenal results just came back positive and the vet recomended surgery. We had told someone there he had only had his distemper shot but i dont remember who because I was upset so she might not know. ugh dont tell me I have to get him an extra shot now too to add to my surgery worries

I know that some vets require this, but....you shouldn't vaccinate a sick animal. It causes severe stress to the animal and will weaken his system. So if the vet follows the protocol set out by the people who make the vaccines, he/she shouldn't ask you to vaccinate your furbaby. They should wave the vaccine. I had a vet's certificate stating that my dog was ill (had an auto immune disease, spinal malieopathy) so I didn't have to have him vaccinated. ciao

I had two boys that went through a couple of adrenal surgeries each - they had never been given a rabies vaccination.
Like Heather says, I wouldn't vaccinate an animal that's having issues. I hope you vet won't reques that you get your ferret vaccinated prior to the surgery (and I hope h'd let he ferret heal for a good long time before suggesting the vaccination.
I simply don't vaccinate my ferrets for rabies (Yes, this is illegal, but my ferrets don't come in contact with other people. If they escae, they won't last long with the coyotes, hawks, foxes, mtn lions, etc. in the back yard!
